Job description

We build customer-facing command and control software for high-altitude balloon systems. Our users are trained operators—primarily U.S. military and internal flight operations teams—who rely on our tools to make real-world decisions. Aerostar, a business unit of TCOM, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help design and build production-grade single-page applications and the services that power them.

This role focuses on delivering high-quality, maintainable software across the full stack. You will contribute to the design and implementation of complex web applications that integrate real-time telemetry, operational data, and mission workflows. While you will have opportunities to influence technical decisions, your primary focus will be building robust systems and contributing to a strong engineering culture.

You will work across frontend and backend systems, partnering with other engineers to deliver scalable, reliable solutions and continuously improve the quality of the codebase.

 Relocation may be available.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and implement key components of complex, data-driven single-page applications
  • Build backend services, APIs, and data flows that support real-time telemetry and operational workflows
  • Contribute to technical design discussions for full-stack features
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code across the stack
  • Identify and address performance, reliability, and maintainability issues
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teammates to deliver high-quality software

What We’re Looking For:

You are an experienced engineer who can independently deliver complex features and systems.

You have contributed to the design and implementation of production software and understand the tradeoffs behind engineering decisions.

You enjoy solving challenging technical problems and collaborating with other engineers to build better systems.

You are pragmatic, detail-oriented, and focused on delivering working software that meets user needs.

You can write software without the assistance of AI but are open to using it to enhance your toolset.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Typically 5+ years of professional software engineering experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Python familiarity
  • TypeScript
  • Complex data visualization
  • Contributing to design systems
  • Working on operational or decision-support tools

How We Work:

We are not a startup, but we operate with ownership and technical rigor.

We are building serious aerospace systems, and we expect strong engineering discipline.

Strong preference for onsite collaboration. Hybrid may be considered. Remote candidates will not be prioritized.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
  • Working Conditions: Primarily in a standard office environment, with occasional exposure to production areas, including noise, fumes, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.

Benefits:

TCOM offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts/HSAs, EAP, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, paid time off (PTO), and company-paid holidays. Programs and eligibility may vary based on hire date, classification, and schedule.
