We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) Drone Pilot to safely and efficiently operate drones for precise pesticide application for vegetation management to our passionate team of environmental professionals. The primary purpose of this role is to offer a comprehensive solution beyond single-method approaches to ensure targeted treatment of vegetation and balancing the benefits of vegetation control to provide reduced costs, improved environmental quality, enhanced wildlife habitat, and regulatory compliance in the long term compared to traditional methods. The UAS Drone Pilot will work closely with our team of environmental scientists and clients to monitor invasive species activity, treat and optimize application methods, and enhance the overall ecosystem-based strategy for managing vegetation.

What you’ll do:
  • The FAA Certified Remote Pilot will provide our government, commercial, utility, not for profit, and internal clients with aerial application services and solutions needed to effectively collect, assemble, process and manage remotely sensed data.
  • Operate agricultural spray drones in accordance with FAA regulations and company guidelines.
  • Work effectively in a variety of computer systems and software applications to effectively operate unmanned aircraft systems for custom applications and a variety of markets.  Understand the contract needs and specifications of clients to analyze data requests, develop and design appropriate solutions.
  • Conduct pre-flight checks to ensure the proper functioning of the drone and its spraying equipment.
  • Safely handle, mix, and load pesticide and fertilizer chemicals according label directions and work orders.
  • Collaborate with scientists and professionals to plan and execute precise pesticide and herbicide applications based on vegetation needs and growth stages.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot UAS equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Monitor weather conditions and other factors that may affect drone operations, making informed decisions to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Keep detailed records of flights, applications, and equipment maintenance for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts as needed.
  • Frequent travel, including overnight stays and travel on short notice.
  • Conduct research and compile summation, statistical and other reports.
  • Organize and develop efficient daily work assignments from start to completion.
  • Understand and apply per client specifications applicable regulations and compliance standards. Program systems to meet client and/or project specifications.
  • Commercial pilot duties also require maintaining certification, managing, monitoring and performing proper maintenance on unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and assessing how effectively their systems are operating under all FAA safety requirements to plan routes for data acquisition, processing and aerial application.
  • Provide support to product users positively and effectively.
  • Work independently and with attention to detail with FAA safety protocols.
What you’ll need:
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
  • Qualify for and obtain FAA Class II or III medical certificate before first day of employment.
  • Proven experience in operating UAS, particularly with aerial applications.
  • Substantial understanding of agricultural practices and crop management.
  • Preferred: Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or ability to obtain one.
  • Stay updated on advancements in drone technology, application methods, and relevant regulations.
  • Four year degree in Geography, Computer Science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar position.
  • Required FAA Commercial Pilot Certifications/License with Four year degree in Aviation field or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on commercial experience with fixed-wing and/or rotor-wing drones.
  • Minimum 100 documented flight hours.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge and proficiency in principles, techniques and applications of unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
