Position Summary
We are currently seeking a full-time Senior ERISA Compliance Analyst to join our Compliance Department. The Compliance Department performs year-end nondiscrimination testing and Form 5500 reporting, prepares and maintains plan documents, and provides ERISA technical support for our clients' retirement plans.
This is a fully remote position based out of our headquarters in Mobile, AL, and it reports to the Director of Compliance.

Position Summary:
To independently manage the full lifecycle of compliance testing, government reporting, and plan document work for a mixed caseload of plans, including plans with complex provisions. The Analyst II operates with meaningful autonomy on routine matters, exercises emerging judgment on non-standard situations, and is expected to train and support Compliance Analyst staff as a first point of technical escalation within the team.
Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation).
  • Independently perform all annual nondiscrimination testing for plans, including plans with complex designs
  • Prepare and review Form 5500 filings for larger plans and those with higher complexity
  • Draft plan amendments for safe harbor addition/removal, eligibility changes, allocation changes, as well as prepare the initial adoption agreement for new plans.
  • Serve as the primary compliance contact for assigned relationship managers
  • Train and mentor Compliance Analysts on testing methodologies, filing procedures, and firm workflows; may conduct initial quality review of Compliance Analyst work product before submission to senior reviewers
  • Identify emerging compliance issues in assigned plans (e.g., operational failures, missed amendments, late contributions) and recommend corrective actions
  • Collect, validate, and reconcile census data and payroll records, resolving data discrepancies independently and escalating systemic data issues to the Director
  • Participate in the development and refinement of internal procedures, checklists, and training materials to improve consistency and efficiency
  • Develop and maintain proficiency with all software necessary to perform job duties, particularly Ft William and Relius applications
  • Meet production standards as established, with increasing emphasis on quality metrics, mentorship contributions, and client communication effectiveness in addition to volume

Requirements
Skills, knowledge and abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job).
  • Working knowledge of ERISA Title I, Internal Revenue Code Sections 401(a), 401(k), 401(m), 410(b), 414(s), 415, and 416 as applied to defined contribution plans
  • Ability to apply nondiscrimination testing rules and plan document provisions accurately across varying plan designs without relying exclusively on software defaults
  • Recognizes when a plan's facts deviate from standard assumptions and determines when to escalate versus resolve independently
  • Effectively coaches newer analysts by explaining not just how to complete tasks, but why the regulatory framework requires specific approaches
  • Translates technical compliance results into clear, actionable guidance for plan sponsor contacts who may lack ERISA expertise
  • Identifies opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and documentation quality within the team
  • Takes full accountability for assigned caseload quality and timeliness, proactively flagging risks before they become problems
  • Advanced Excel skills with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot data discrepancies and reconcile census information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience and Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, human resources, or a related field is preferred
  • 3-7 years of direct experience in retirement plan compliance testing, Form 5500 preparation, or plan document administration within a TPA, recordkeeper, benefits consulting firm, or law firm
  • Experience with at least one major retirement plan administration software platform (e.g., Relius, Ft William, ASC, Datair)
  • ASPPA RPF designation achieved or in progress; QKA or other ASPPA/NIPA credentials preferred
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel, is required
