Remote Alpha Game Testing information

What is Remote Alpha Game Testing?

Remote Alpha Game Testing is a phase in game development where selected testers play and evaluate a game from their own locations before it is released to the public. Testers provide feedback on gameplay, report bugs, and help developers identify issues in the game's early stages. This process ensures that major problems are addressed before the game moves to beta testing or launch. Remote alpha testers often sign non-disclosure agreements and may use special tools to report issues directly to the development team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Alpha Game Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Alpha Game Tester, you need strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and basic knowledge of software testing, often supported by familiarity with gaming platforms and bug tracking processes. Experience with tools like Jira, TestRail, or proprietary bug-reporting systems is typically required, and some employers may value certifications in software testing such as ISTQB. Excellent communication, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset help testers articulate issues clearly and work effectively with development teams. These skills and qualities are vital for identifying critical bugs early, ensuring game quality, and facilitating smooth communication in remote environments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote alpha game testers, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote alpha game testers often encounter challenges such as limited communication with development teams, unclear bug reporting protocols, and adapting to rapidly changing builds. To manage these effectively, testers should make use of standardized bug tracking tools, maintain detailed notes, and proactively seek clarification when requirements are ambiguous. Strong self-motivation and time management are also essential, as remote testers need to stay organized and meet deadlines with minimal direct supervision. Regular check-ins with team leads or participation in scheduled virtual meetings can help testers stay aligned with project goals and foster effective collaboration.

Job description

Join Our Founding Team: Design How AI Video Games are Created and Played!

We're an ambitious new game studio on a mission to revolutionize how games are made by creating an AI Game Generator that transforms players' lives into playable, personalized adventures. We envision a "game within a game," where the user enjoys building the game as much as they enjoy playing it. As our lead UI/UX Video Game Designer, you will craft the end-to-end experience that makes game creation immersive, intuitive, and fun. You will design how players work with the AI to guide the game's style and refine its components, all while giving players the freedom to unleash their creativity.

You can learn more about DreamForge and join our waitlist at https://www.playdreamforge.com

What You'll Do:

  • Design and iterate the end-to-end UI/UX flow for AI-assisted game creation
  • Determine how players will interact with "Forge", the character that helps them build their Dreams
  • Create a playful and engaging "game-within-a-game" experience, ensuring the creation process is as enjoyable as the game itself
  • Balance structure and freedom: guide users effectively through prompts so they don't feel stuck, without limiting their creative potential
  • Develop user flows and high-fidelity prototypes that can be implemented in Unity
  • Collaborate with engineers, AI specialists, and game designers to bring the experience to life
  • Conduct usability testing, synthesize feedback, and refine designs to optimize the player experience

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating UI/UX work in video games
  • Practical experience collaborating with teams developing within Unity
  • Experience with both mobile and PC game design
  • Understanding of player psychology, engagement loops, and what makes design feel game-like
  • Excellent English communication skills and ability to articulate design choices clearly
  • Comfortable working in a remote, global team environment, both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience designing conversational or AI-driven interfaces is a plus

Benefits:

  • Equity ownership. Share in the upside of what we are building together
  • Competitive salary and a full-time position
  • Flexible location and fully-remote work environment
  • The opportunity to join a very early stage company and leave your mark on something truly unique
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
