Job Description:

The Practice Manager provides effective leadership and creates a culture of accountability for Acute care operations including excellence in patient and caregiver safety, quality assurance of care, patient experience, equity, patient access to care, financial stewardship including budget management, caregiver engagement, and growth. The Practice Manager makes employment decisions including hiring, performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action decisions. This role also supports ancillary services such as human resources and information systems.

Complexity of Scope - Primary Determinant

The Inpatient (IP) Practice Manager provides operational leadership and oversight for multiple hospital-based specialties and service lines, including Hospital Medicine, Critical Care/Intensivists, Palliative Care, Inpatient Psychiatry, and Neonatology (NICU). This role supports a large and complex clinical enterprise consisting of physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and nursing professionals.

The position requires close collaboration with physician leaders, nursing leadership, hospital executives, and operational partners to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care. Given the breadth of responsibility, the Practice Manager serves as a key operational liaison across numerous departments and clinical programs, coordinating efforts to align strategic initiatives, operational priorities, regulatory requirements, and patient care objectives.

The Practice Manager is responsible for fostering a highly engaged and effective workforce through coaching, mentoring, performance management, succession planning, and leadership development. The role also serves as a strategic partner in day-to-day operations, provider onboarding, workforce planning, budget management, productivity monitoring, quality improvement initiatives, and operational performance optimization. Through collaboration with interdisciplinary leaders, the Practice Manager helps drive organizational goals, support clinical excellence, and ensure the successful operation of multiple inpatient service lines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others to create a culture of accountability and teaming
  • Develops vision for practice and executes plans to achieve vision.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization and demonstrated ability to influence non-direct reports to meet department goals
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal relations skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise, and coach front office staff.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheet, and advanced computer applications (i.e. database or presentations).
  • Ability to problem solve and address issues raised by physicians, employees, and patients.
  • Experience managing a department budget

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field
  • 2 years leadership experience in a healthcare setting
