What is a remote AI developer?

Remote AI Developers are software professionals who design, build, and implement artificial intelligence solutions while working from locations outside of a traditional office, such as their home or a co-working space. They collaborate with teams virtually to develop machine learning models, automate processes, and create intelligent applications. Their responsibilities often include data analysis, training algorithms, and deploying AI models, all conducted using remote communication and project management tools. This role requires strong programming skills, knowledge of AI frameworks, and the ability to work independently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote AI developer?

To thrive as a Remote AI Developer, you need strong programming skills (especially in Python), deep knowledge of machine learning algorithms, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch, cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure), and version control systems like Git is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills set outstanding candidates apart. These competencies ensure you can build robust AI solutions independently, collaborate seamlessly with distributed teams, and adapt to rapid technological advancements.

Job Description:

What It Means to Be a Consultant at Crowe
Consulting is a dynamic business focused on solving problems for our clients and serving our core markets through innovative solutions. As technology and AI continue to reshape the consulting landscape, we are looking for individuals who are curious, adaptable, and eager to learn. At Crowe, consultants are expected to build both technical and transferable skills, think critically, and use technology to solve real business problems. In this role, you will continuously learn, collaborate across teams, and explore how tools, including emerging AI capabilities, can improve efficiency, insights, and client outcomes.

In management at Crowe, you play a pivotal role in leading teams, guiding project execution, and deepening client relationships. You are expected to contribute to account planning, identify opportunities to add value, and ensure high-quality delivery. As your responsibilities expand, you take on broader account ownership, balancing project leadership with growing involvement in client strategy and solution development.

Success in this role comes from a growth mindset, strong communication skills, advanced critical thinking, and the ability to navigate new challenges with confidence.

About the Team

  • We invest in expertise. You'll have the time, space, and support to go deep in your projects and build lasting technical and strategic mastery. You'll work with developers, product stakeholders, and project managers as a trusted leader and domain expert.
  • We believe in continuous growth. Our team is committed to professional development and knowledge-sharing.
  • We protect balance. Our distributed team culture is grounded in trust and flexibility. We offer unlimited PTO, a flexible remote work policy, and a supportive environment that prioritizes sustainable, long-term performance.

About the Role

The Cyber AI Security Manager sits at the intersection of AI engineering and cybersecurity. You will help clients securely adopt AI while also helping Crowe reinvent how cybersecurity services are delivered using AI. You will assess and secure GenAI, ML, and agentic systems, develop security patterns and controls for emerging AI architectures, and partner with cybersecurity teams to identify, prototype, and scale AI-enabled capabilities that improve the speed, quality, and effectiveness of our client solutions. The role includes the following requirements:

  • Collaborate closely with AI developers, DevOps engineers, and product teams to identify potential security vulnerabilities, implement best practices, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support security assessments, penetration testing, and vulnerability management for AI systems to proactively mitigate risks.
  • Act as the security expert in designing, developing, and deploying secure AI and machine learning applications, with a focus on safeguarding personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Stay ahead of emerging cybersecurity threats, privacy regulations, and compliance requirements to ensure that our AI solutions continuously meet and exceed market standards.
  • Document security protocols, conduct training sessions, and promote security awareness within the team and organization.
  • Engage with stakeholders across multiple disciplines to refine security policies and procedures specific to AI and ML products.
  • Identify opportunities to apply GenAI, agents, ML, and automation to improve cybersecurity services and client outcomes.
  • Prototype and productionize AI-enabled security capabilities-for example, accelerating security assessments, threat analysis, vulnerability prioritization, control testing, evidence analysis, or security operations.
  • Partner with cybersecurity practitioners to understand existing delivery processes and determine where AI can improve quality, speed, scalability, or insight.
  • Evaluate emerging AI security tooling and determine where commercial products versus custom AI solutions make sense.
  • Help establish reusable AI-enabled cybersecurity accelerators, patterns, and intellectual property that can be deployed across client engagements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in cybersecurity, particularly focused on securing software and data-intensive products.
  • Proficiency with cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or CIS Controls.
  • Familiarity with AI-specific regulatory environments and ethical considerations surrounding AI deployment.
  • Experience with AI related frameworks such as NIST AI RMF, OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications / GenAI Security Project, and MITRE ATLAS.
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, or integrating AI/ML or Generative AI solutions, including experience with LLM APIs, AI agents/tool use, and modern AI application architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify cybersecurity use cases for AI and translate them into prototypes, production solutions, or scalable service offerings.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML systems architecture and the associated security considerations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex security topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, legal, compliance, and business stakeholders.
  • Would require readiness to travel domestically approximately 40% of the time to meet client needs.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CompTIA Security+, or relevant Microsoft Azure security certifications.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong experience in penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and security incident response.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud security practices, especially within Microsoft Azure, including identity management, access controls, and secure networking configurations.
  • Proven expertise in GDPR compliance, SOC 2 audits, and handling of sensitive PII.
  • Experience with data anonymization techniques and privacy-preserving machine learning methodologies.
  • Understanding of DevSecOps principles and experience integrating security into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Previous experience within professional services or consulting environments, demonstrating client-facing capabilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of navigating ambiguous scenarios and rapidly evolving threats.
