Job description
This position supports the Oregon Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (OADRC), an NIH/NIA-funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) and part of the Layton Aging & Alzheimer's Disease Center. Layton Center investigative teams contribute to national and international efforts to understand aging and research promising treatments for Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for communicating with internal and external stakeholders - sharing information both within OHSU and with the public, facilitating recruitment for research studies and elevating the profile of the Layton center.
They will develop and implement communications strategies, including (but not limited to) the creation of promotional materials, building and maintaining web pages and generating written content to support the initiatives of the Layton Center.
This work requires the use of independent judgement, problem solving skills, project and time management. Strong interpersonal communication and organization skills are essential. This position also requires the ability to complete complex and detail-oriented duties while working closely with investigators and staff.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor's in relevant field AND 2 years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of training and experience
- Experience with public-facing communication and engagement
- The ability to gather and translate complicated information into engaging language meant for a public audience
- Content strategy and/or digital content marketing skills
- Skilled in website content management and content management systems
- Skilled in graphic design
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, and other MS Office programs
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Ability to follow OHSU visual brand guidelines and collaborate with OHSU creative services
- Demonstrated high level of independence, organization and attention to detail
- Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and prioritize projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - including the ability to speak and communicate clearly and demonstrate a high level of professionalism
- Must be able to work effectively both as a team member and independently
- Ability to proactively interface with team members as needed for content creation
- Familiarity with scientific and health-related terminology
- Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Psychology or other relevant fields
- Coursework in digital marketing, content strategy and/or content marketing
- Experience in human subjects research, working with research participants and/or seniors
- Working knowledge of scientific methods and human subjects research
- Photography skills
- Typical schedule: M-F, occasional nights and weekends, local or national travel possible but not frequent
- Work schedule may vary depending on job/study requirements
- Travel between meeting locations including using the Portland Aerial Tram
- May have regular exposure to noise and interruptions
- Remote work will be considered after initial probationary period
