What is a Remote 3D Designer?

A Remote 3D Designer is a professional who creates three-dimensional visual representations of objects, environments, or concepts using specialized software, all while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. They collaborate with clients or teams online to design models for industries such as gaming, architecture, product design, or animation. Remote 3D Designers rely on digital communication tools to share their work and receive feedback, making it possible to work with clients and companies worldwide.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote 3D designer?

To thrive as a Remote 3D Designer, you need strong proficiency in 3D modeling, rendering, and visualization, typically supported by a relevant degree or portfolio of work. Mastery of industry-standard tools such as Blender, Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, or Cinema 4D, along with familiarity with collaborative platforms and file-sharing systems, is essential. Excellent communication, time management, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for succeeding in a remote work environment. These abilities ensure high-quality creative output, effective collaboration with clients and teams, and the ability to meet deadlines independently.

How does collaboration typically work for a remote 3D designer working with distributed teams?

As a Remote 3D Designer, you'll often collaborate with project managers, fellow designers, and developers across different time zones using digital tools such as Slack, Zoom, and cloud-based project management platforms. This setup allows for flexibility, but it also requires strong self-motivation and organizational skills to manage your workload and meet deadlines. Regular check-ins and updates help ensure everyone stays aligned and projects progress smoothly.

Job description

At PrizePicks, we are the fastest-growing sports company in North America, as recognized by Inc. 5000. As the leading platform for Daily Fantasy Sports, we cover a diverse range of sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, and Esports titles like League of Legends and Counter-Strike. Our team of over 550 employees thrives in an inclusive culture that values individuals from diverse backgrounds, regardless of their level of sports fandom. Ready to reimagine the DFS industry together?
About the Role
PrizePicks' Creative Collective is looking to add a Lead 3D Designer to our roster. The Creative Collective is a small, high-conviction team built around one standard: commit fully or not at all. We move fast, debate hard, and once a call is made, we stand behind it together.
You'll lead our 3D discipline from start to finish, working alongside our Art Directors & Product teams to design a 3D language that adds to the fan experience in our product and throughout our marketing.
You are an elite 3D craftsperson first. You build characters, environments, and objects that add to the PrizePicks experience/brand, and you know when to hand-build and when to let AI tools do the heavy lifting so you can move faster without losing the idea. You're also the person who now decides how 3D work gets briefed, reviewed, and shipped across the organization.
If you've spent your career being the best 3D mind in every room you've been in and you're ready to lead the discipline instead of just contributing to it, this is it.
How We Work
Lead with conviction - Be Iverson
Bring work you believe in and have a strong POV. Authenticity matters more than the idea itself. If the idea could live with another brand's logo on it, it doesn't belong here. We'd rather refine a bold idea than try to save a safe one.
↳ Not: "This is just an option" or over-explaining to compensate for weak belief
Sharpen each other - Be Pharrell
Value direct feedback and be comfortable in conflict. Debate makes the work better. Once a call is made, we move together. Mediocre work is a collective failure, not an individual one.
↳ Not: Silent agreement followed by side conversations or ego-driven critique
Execute under pressure - Be Jordan
The standard does not change when the moment does. We move with precision and continually refine our judgment. Practice or clutch time, you show up with the same intensity.
↳ Not: "We didn't have time" or overcomplicating simple calls
Show up fully - Be Virgil
Show up wherever you are needed, whenever you are needed, without hesitation. Not for credit - for the outcome. It's not about doing everything. It's about doing what's required to make it right.
↳ Not: "That's not my job" or trying to protect your role over protecting the work
What You'll Do
Build worlds that feel unmistakably PrizePicks
  • Design and build 3D characters, environments, and objects for brand campaigns, product moments, and cultural activations
  • Translate 2D concepts and mood boards into fully realized 3D executions
  • Own the render quality bar - lighting, materials, composition - from first pass to final delivery

Push what 3D + AI can do together
  • Integrate AI image generation workflows (Weavy) into the 3D pipeline to speed up ideation and exploration
  • Experiment with real-time rendering and emerging tools that shorten the distance between idea and finished asset
  • Bring new techniques back to the team - you're the one testing what's next, not waiting for someone else to

Lead the 3D discipline through craft, not authority
  • Own how 3D work gets briefed, reviewed, and delivered across the team
  • Partner with the Art Directors so 3D work lands inside the bigger creative idea, not bolted onto it
  • Create an environment where 3D work at PrizePicks is something the team is genuinely proud of

Own the pipeline
  • Maintain clean, reusable asset libraries, rigs, and templates so the team can move fast without rebuilding from scratch
  • Balance multiple projects across brand, social, and campaign timelines without dropping quality
  • Know when to hand-build and when to lean on procedural or AI-assisted workflows to hit a deadline without cutting corners

Who You Are
  • A maker first who's ready to lead - you'd rather build it than brief it out, and the team gets better because they watch you work
  • Fast - what would take an agency weeks, you can do in days
  • Deep in the tools - Blender/C4D (or equivalent) is second nature, not something you're still learning
  • A player-coach - you lead through craft and feedback, not authority for its own sake
  • Low ego about ownership
  • Curious by default - new tools, new workflows, new techniques get you excited, not defensive
  • Chronically online enough to know what culture actually looks/feels like right now
  • Die hard sports fan

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of 3D design experience, with a portfolio that shows range across character, environment, and object design
  • Strong command of Blender (or equivalent: Cinema 4D, Maya) plus a rendering engine like Octane or Redshift
  • Comfort integrating AI tools into a creative pipeline - this isn't optional, it's how we work now
  • A sports, streetwear, or hip-hop culture fluency that shows up in your work, not just your playlist

Bonus Points
  • Experience with real-time engines (Unreal, Unity) or procedural tools (Houdini)
  • Experience managing, mentoring, or directly leading other 3D or design talent
  • Motion or animation background alongside 3D

What Success Looks Like
  • In 90 days, you'll have a real working rhythm - the 3D work is faster and the output is sharper than it ever has been at PrizePicks.
  • In six months, there's 3D work with your fingerprints on it that's genuinely moved the brand forward - campaigns, product moments, cultural activations that wouldn't have looked the same without you.
  • In a year, the 3D discipline at PrizePicks is looked upon as the industry standard, and you're a big reason why.

Location
  • While we prefer candidates based in Atlanta, we are open to qualified applicants from anywhere in the U.S. and are willing to consider remote candidates. #LI-Remote
