What is a remote 1099 software developer contractor?

A Remote 1099 Software Developer Contractor is an independent professional who provides software development services to clients while working remotely, rather than as an on-site employee. The '1099' refers to IRS Form 1099, which is used to report income earned by independent contractors in the United States. These developers are typically responsible for managing their own taxes, benefits, and work schedules. They often work on a project-by-project basis for various clients, instead of being tied to a single employer. This arrangement offers flexibility but requires self-discipline and strong communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote 1099 software developer contractor?

To thrive as a Remote 1099 Software Developer Contractor, you need strong programming skills, experience with software development lifecycles, and typically a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), cloud platforms, and project management tools, as well as knowledge of relevant programming languages and frameworks, is essential. Outstanding self-motivation, communication, and time management set top contractors apart, enabling efficient remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills ensure you can produce high-quality work independently, meet client expectations, and succeed in a flexible, project-based environment.

What are the main challenges of working as a remote 1099 software developer contractor and how can they be managed?

As a Remote 1099 Software Developer Contractor, you may face challenges such as managing multiple clients, staying self-motivated without direct supervision, and handling inconsistent workloads. Effective time management and clear communication with clients are essential to meet deadlines and expectations. Additionally, you'll need to handle your own taxes, benefits, and ongoing skill development. Building a reliable workflow and maintaining professional boundaries can help ensure long-term success in this flexible role.

Job description

Medical Software Sales Representative — Healthcare RCM Experience Required (1099, Commission-Only)

InvisaClaim is a healthcare revenue cycle platform in Boca Raton. We help medical billing companies and specialty practices stop insurance denials before claims go out, and recover money already owed on denials that got through. We're an overlay on the systems a practice already runs — not a replacement for their PM or EHR — which is why the sale doesn't require ripping anything out.

We're live with Epic, integrated with Optum/Change Healthcare, Waystar, and Availity, an athenahealth Marketplace partner, and hold a patent portfolio on our denial-prediction technology. We are opening independent rep territories.

What you'll do

  • Prospect practice administrators, billing managers, and physician owners at specialty practices and billing companies in your territory
  • Run discovery on how a practice handles denials today — payer mix, denial rate, days in A/R, what's sitting past 120 days
  • Deliver demos and build ROI cases from the prospect's own numbers
  • Manage deals from first contact through a 30-day trial to a signed subscription
  • Work your own schedule, your own vehicle, your own territory

Who this is for

  • 2+ years selling B2B into healthcare — RCM, medical billing, EHR/PM software, clearinghouse services, or medical devices sold to practices
  • You can hold a credible conversation about denials, A/R aging, payer contracts, and clean claim rates without a script
  • You already have contacts among practice administrators, billing managers, or billing company owners in your territory
  • You run your own pipeline without daily supervision
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to be in practices in person

Who this is not for
This is not entry-level, not a career-change role, and not a fit if your sales background is insurance, real estate, retail, or door-to-door. If you have not sold to physician practices before, you will not be successful here and we will not be able to train around it.

Compensation
Commission-only. No base, no draw.

  • 20% of collected subscription revenue for the first 12 months of each account
  • 8% residual for the life of the account after that — a book of business, not a one-time payout
  • 25% first-year rate on practices with 15+ providers
  • Uncapped. Deal size scales with provider count.
  • Commissions are paid twice monthly, on the 1st and the 15th, on revenue collected since the prior payout. No 30- or 45-day lag.

What we provide

  • Full product and industry training plus a written sales playbook
  • Company email address and CRM access
  • Demo environment, marketing materials, competitive battlecards
  • Direct access to the founder — no layers between you and a decision on pricing or terms
  • Leads in addition to your own generated leads.

This is a 1099 independent contractor role. You set your own schedule and are responsible for your own taxes and expenses. InvisaClaim, LLC is an equal opportunity employer.
