Job description

Tax Senior
Our client has an immediate need for a Tax Senior. This is a remote direct hire opportunity.
Client Profile
Our client is a growing public accounting and financial advisory firm that operates as a full service fractional family office. The organization supports clients across tax compliance, proactive tax planning, bookkeeping, payroll, wealth management, and broader financial advisory services.
The firm offers a more consultative environment than a traditional tax practice. Tax professionals are encouraged to understand the full financial picture of their clients, develop deeper advisory skills, and participate in sophisticated planning strategies while working within a highly collaborative team.
The culture emphasizes communication, efficiency, professional development, and work life balance. Team members work closely together despite the remote structure, with frequent communication, educational meetings, and ongoing collaboration across client relationships.
Tax Senior Role
The Tax Senior will combine technical tax expertise with client relationship management and proactive tax planning responsibilities.
This position is heavily weighted toward tax review and client interaction. The Tax Senior will review complex individual and business returns, support higher level tax planning, mentor junior team members, and gradually take ownership of approximately 20 to 30 key client relationships.
Responsibilities include:
• Review individual and business tax returns prepared by other members of the tax team
• Prepare more complex returns as needed, including 1040, 1120S, 1065, and C Corporation returns
• Evaluate returns beyond technical accuracy by identifying inconsistencies, planning opportunities, and issues based on knowledge of the client
• Participate in and ultimately lead quarterly and semiannual client meetings
• Discuss tax returns, projections, planning strategies, and financial questions directly with business owners and other senior client contacts
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of assigned clients, including their businesses, tax position, bookkeeping status, previous planning discussions, and broader financial relationships
• Prepare agendas and identify important issues or opportunities before client meetings
• Present tax strategies and recommendations in a clear and approachable manner
• Review work performed by Tax Associates and junior team members
• Provide technical feedback, coaching, and support to developing tax professionals
• Research federal and state tax matters and independently work through potential solutions
• Assist clients with tax notices and taxing authority matters as needed
• Collaborate with leadership and other team members on complex client situations and planning opportunities
• Maintain current knowledge of changes in federal and state tax regulations
There is no formal sales or business development quota associated with the position. The focus is on client service, relationship ownership, and advisory support.
Tax Senior Background Profile
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting
• CPA license required
• 3 or more years of public accounting tax experience
• Experience completing multiple tax seasons
• Strong experience preparing individual and business tax returns from beginning to end
• Experience with 1040, 1120S, 1065, C Corporation, and complex business returns
• Tax return review experience strongly preferred
• Ability to understand what a tax return is communicating rather than focusing solely on data entry and accuracy
• Strong client facing communication experience
• Comfortable speaking with business owners, CFOs, executives, and other senior stakeholders
• Ability to explain complex tax concepts in a clear and approachable manner
• Strong initiative and ability to independently research questions and move work forward
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and client relationships successfully in a remote environment
• Collaborative, team oriented approach
• Interest in developing deeper tax planning and advisory expertise
• UltraTax and CS Planner experience highly preferred but not required
Benefits and Features
• Remote work environment
• Discretionary quarterly bonus opportunity following eligibility requirements
• 100% employer paid medical insurance premiums for employee, spouse, and dependents under the company sponsored plan
• Voluntary dental and vision coverage
• 401(k) with traditional and Roth options
• 4% employer match
• Profit sharing
• Two weeks PTO
• 72 hours of annual sick leave
• Paid holidays
• Paid birthday off
• Four additional summer flex days
• Additional PTO based on tenure
• Tax season comp time
• Paid continuing education
• Company provided technology and equipment
• Approximately 40 hour workweeks outside of busy season
• Busy season generally averages approximately 50 to 55 hours per week rather than the significantly longer hours common within traditional public accounting firms
