Remodeling Manager information

What does a remodeling manager do?

A Remodeling Manager oversees renovation projects for homes or commercial properties, managing everything from planning and budgeting to supervising contractors and ensuring quality work. They coordinate with clients to understand their needs, develop project timelines, and ensure that all work complies with building codes and safety regulations. Remodeling Managers also handle problem-solving during the project, track expenses, and keep clients updated on progress. Their role is essential to delivering successful remodeling outcomes on time and within budget.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a remodeling manager?

To thrive as a Remodeling Manager, you need strong project management skills, knowledge of construction methods, budgeting, and a background in building codes, often supported by a degree in construction management or related experience. Proficiency with project management software like Buildertrend or Procore and understanding of estimating tools are typically required. Leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating teams and client expectations. These skills ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction while maintaining safety and quality standards.

What challenges does a remodeling manager face when coordinating multiple renovation projects?

A Remodeling Manager often juggles several projects at once, which can present challenges like balancing competing deadlines, managing subcontractors' availability, and ensuring consistent communication across teams. Unexpected issues such as supply chain delays or unforeseen structural problems may arise, requiring quick problem-solving and effective prioritization. Successful Remodeling Managers rely on strong organizational skills, clear scheduling, and proactive communication with clients, vendors, and crew members to keep projects on track and maintain quality standards.

Sun Design, an architectural design-build remodeler, has been transforming homes in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC area since 1988. Sun's sparkling reputation has been built on reinventing homes through the creative use of light and space, working closely with clients, with minimal impact on busy lives. Job Description

This is not a typical handyman position.

We're looking for a professional who can confidently meet with homeowners, diagnose issues, create solutions, sell and price home maintenance projects, coordinate resources, and deliver an exceptional client experience.

You'll oversee our warranty program while growing our Forever Home Care service division through ongoing maintenance services, seasonal maintenance agreements, and small improvement projects for our past clients.

If you're equal parts craftsman, salesperson, problem solver, and relationship builder, we'd like to meet you.

What You'll Do

As the Warranty & Home Services Manager, you'll be the face of Sun Design for many of our past clients.

You'll help homeowners protect and maintain their investment while identifying opportunities to provide additional services that improve their homes and lives.

Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervising and mentoring a Home Services Technician
  • Identifying future remodeling opportunities and referring them to our sales team
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and project records
  • Ensuring every client receives exceptional experience

This Role Is Part Service Manager, Part Sales Consultant

You should be able to:

  • Listen carefully to homeowner concerns
  • Diagnose underlying issues
  • Recommend practical solutions
  • Explain pricing confidently
  • Gain clients buy-in
  • Close small service projects
  • Follow up consistently

  • Organized
  • Professional

  • A strong communicator
  • Someone who follows through

You don't need constant supervision.

You know how to prioritize your day, communicate proactively, and keep commitments.

While you'll have a dedicated coordinator helping schedule appointments, and support administrative tasks, you'll be expected to take ownership of your workload and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

Technical Skills

Strong experience in several of the following:

  • Finish carpentry
  • Drywall repair
  • Painting and touch-up work
  • Doors and hardware
  • Cabinet adjustments and repairs
  • Basic plumbing

  • Tablets and smartphones in the field
  • Scheduling and project management software

Experience with service management, estimating, or small-project sales is highly desirable.

Why Join Sun Design?

For over 35 years, Sun Design has built a reputation for exceptional remodeling and lifelong client relationships.
