What does a remodeling manager do?

A Remodeling Manager oversees renovation projects for homes or commercial properties, managing everything from planning and budgeting to supervising contractors and ensuring quality work. They coordinate with clients to understand their needs, develop project timelines, and ensure that all work complies with building codes and safety regulations. Remodeling Managers also handle problem-solving during the project, track expenses, and keep clients updated on progress. Their role is essential to delivering successful remodeling outcomes on time and within budget.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a remodeling manager?

To thrive as a Remodeling Manager, you need strong project management skills, knowledge of construction methods, budgeting, and a background in building codes, often supported by a degree in construction management or related experience. Proficiency with project management software like Buildertrend or Procore and understanding of estimating tools are typically required. Leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating teams and client expectations. These skills ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction while maintaining safety and quality standards.

What challenges does a remodeling manager face when coordinating multiple renovation projects?

A Remodeling Manager often juggles several projects at once, which can present challenges like balancing competing deadlines, managing subcontractors' availability, and ensuring consistent communication across teams. Unexpected issues such as supply chain delays or unforeseen structural problems may arise, requiring quick problem-solving and effective prioritization. Successful Remodeling Managers rely on strong organizational skills, clear scheduling, and proactive communication with clients, vendors, and crew members to keep projects on track and maintain quality standards.

Job description

Production & Purchasing Manager - Bath Remodeling
Otterly Baths | New Carlisle, OH | Full-Time | Monday-Friday | $85,000-$100,000/year + Bonus
ABOUT US
Otterly Baths is a fast-growing bath remodeling company serving Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Lima, Northern Kentucky, Lexington, Louisville, Philadelphia, and Delaware. We help homeowners transform their bathrooms with quality products and a smooth, professional remodeling experience from start to finish.
If you're currently managing production or purchasing at a bath remodeling, home improvement, or construction company and you're ready for a role with real authority, real ownership, and direct access to leadership - this is the opportunity you've been waiting for.
THE ROLE
We're hiring a Production & Purchasing Manager to lead our Production Department and own purchasing and procurement for all job materials company-wide. This is a leadership role with full ownership - you set the department's direction, build the vendor relationships, create the processes, and drive the results.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead the Production Department - set the standard, run the day-to-day, and own the results
  • Manage purchasing and procurement of all job materials company-wide
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with vendors and suppliers, and build relationships that last
  • Own inventory management across 4 locations (New Carlisle HQ plus 3 stocking locations) - accurate counts, smart stocking levels, no surprises on install day
  • Coordinate shipping and material logistics so every job has what it needs, when it needs it
  • Create, document, and enforce processes and procedures that make the department run the same way every day - and improve them as we grow
  • Set and track department goals, KPIs, and performance metrics, and hold the team accountable to them
  • Communicate daily with install managers, sales, warehouse staff, and leadership to keep materials aligned with production and install schedules
  • Travel occasionally to other company locations and vendor meetings (minimal)

WHO YOU ARE
  • A leader, not just a manager. You're assertive and confident running an entire department - you set expectations, hold people accountable, and your team respects you for it
  • Organized to a fault. Systems, checklists, and clean processes are how you operate. You don't just follow procedures - you build them, document them, and make sure they stick
  • A strong communicator. You keep installers, vendors, sales, and leadership on the same page, and problems never sit in your inbox
  • Computer-savvy. Comfortable with spreadsheets, inventory systems, and learning new software fast - you use technology to run the department, not avoid it
  • Reliable and consistent. You show up, follow through, and the team never has to wonder where things stand
  • A team player with backbone. You work well with everyone across the company, but you're not afraid to push back and protect your department's standards

REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or production management
  • Bath remodeling, home improvement, or construction industry experience required - experience at a multi-market or national bath remodeling company is a major plus
  • Proven leadership and team management experience
  • Hands-on inventory management experience
  • Strong proficiency with computers - spreadsheets, inventory/ordering systems, email, and scheduling tools
  • Experience creating and documenting SOPs, processes, or procedures is a major plus
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Goal-oriented with a track record of hitting targets
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured to drive company vehicles
  • Must be able to pass a background check

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • $85,000-$100,000/year, based on experience
  • Bonus opportunities
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Monday-Friday schedule
  • A growing company where your work is seen and your ideas move fast
