Manufacturing Engineer
Winooski, VT Full-Time Monday-Friday
$75,000-$90,000 per year, based on experience
Position Overview
Preci Manufacturing is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to develop, improve, and support reliable manufacturing processes across our precision CNC machining operations.
This position serves as a technical bridge between engineering and production, working closely with CNC programmers, machinists, section leads, Quality, and management to turn customer requirements into practical, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes.
The Manufacturing Engineer will develop process plans and routings, support tooling and fixture decisions, improve setup and work instructions, assist with new-job launches, troubleshoot production problems, and lead projects that reduce cycle time, scrap, rework, and manufacturing cost. The position will also support new equipment, automation, and increased machine utilization.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working directly on the shop floor and using technical knowledge to make measurable improvements in quality, delivery, capacity, and cost.
Why Join Preci
  • Join a stable and growing precision manufacturing company
  • Work directly with experienced CNC programmers, machinists, and quality professionals
  • Take ownership of improvements from initial concept through shop-floor implementation
  • Gain broad exposure to CNC milling, turning, grinding, inspection, and related processes
  • Help launch new work and develop reliable manufacturing methods
  • Contribute to automation, unattended production, and capital-equipment projects
  • Receive a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package

Key Responsibilities
  • Review customer drawings, models, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T requirements to evaluate manufacturability and determine appropriate production methods
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing process plans, routings, operation sequences, setup instructions, work instructions, and standard times in Global Shop Solutions
  • Define and support tooling, workholding, fixture, gauge, inspection, material, and outside-processing requirements
  • Partner with CNC programmers, machinists, section leads, and Quality to prove out new jobs, resolve startup issues, and establish stable production processes
  • Provide technical support for CNC milling, turning, grinding, and related manufacturing operations, including troubleshooting equipment and process problems
  • Investigate scrap, rework, nonconforming material, and recurring production issues using structured root-cause analysis and corrective action
  • Reduce setup and cycle times and improve workflow, machine utilization, first-pass yield, process capability, and repeatability
  • Use production, quality, and cost data to identify improvement opportunities, prioritize projects, and verify results
  • Lead or support equipment and automation projects, including requirements development, supplier evaluation, cost justification, installation, process validation, and training
  • Create and maintain clear process documentation, standard work, setup information, and lessons learned
  • Collaborate with Quality to meet AS9100, customer, regulatory, inspection, and first-article requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and training to production employees while promoting safe, efficient, and consistent manufacturing practices

Benefits
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Health insurance with a Health Reimbursement Arrangement
  • Dental and vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • Critical illness and accident insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Employee assistance and financial wellness support, including BeneMoney (employee loan program with payroll deduction)
  • 50% discounted corporate gym membership at The Edge Fitness Clubs

Work Location
This position is fully on-site at Preci Manufacturing in Winooski, Vermont. Because the position may require access to export-controlled technical data, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical discipline; an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered
  • Two or more years of manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or related experience in a machining or precision-manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Practical knowledge of CNC machining principles, tooling, workholding, fixtures, setup methods, and manufacturing process development
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, three-dimensional models, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T
  • Experience developing manufacturing process plans, routings, work instructions, setup documentation, or standard times
  • Strong analytical and hands-on problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and corrective action
  • Experience with CAD systems; familiarity with CAM software or CNC programming is preferred
  • Knowledge of inspection methods, first-article requirements, and AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems is preferred
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and data-driven cost, cycle-time, and scrap reduction
  • Experience with ERP systems; Global Shop Solutions experience is preferred
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production employees, programmers, Quality, suppliers, and company leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple technical projects and priorities; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
