Job description

Schunk Xycarb Technology, Inc. in Georgetown, Texas, is hiring Quartz Welders / Glassblowers for our 1st and 2nd shifts. These full‑time positions offer competitive pay based on experience and a comprehensive benefits package.

Available Shifts

  • 1st Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM–7:30 PM

Starting Salary

  • Apprentice Quartz Welder: Starting at $20.00/hour
  • Level I Quartz Welder: Starting at $22.00/hour
  • Level II & III Quartz Welder: Starting pay based on relevant welding, fabrication, quartz experience, and welding assessment results.
  • Master Quartz Welder: Competitive pay based on demonstrated quartz welding expertise and technical skill

All candidates participate in a practical welding assessment as part of the hiring process. Placement and starting pay are determined by qualifications, prior experience, and performance during the skills evaluation.

Position Overview

As a Quartz Welder / Glassblower, you will perform highly skilled work fabricating precision quartz components for the semiconductor industry. We welcome experienced Quartz Welders and Glassblowers, as well as skilled welders from related industries who are interested in applying their craftsmanship to specialized quartz fabrication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex glassworking, including shaping, forming, and manipulating quartz materials with precision.
  • Execute precision welding using hydrogen/oxygen torches and other specialized tools.
  • Fabricate delicate, high‑purity quartz components for semiconductor applications.
  • Operate specialized equipment, including lathes, hydrogen/oxygen torches, annealing ovens, and automation robots.
  • Follow OSHA and EHS&R standards to maintain a safe, compliant, and clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to meet exacting customer specifications.
  • Maintain accuracy, craftsmanship, and consistency in all fabrication processes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated welding experience in quartz, glass, metal, TIG, fabrication, or other precision welding applications.
  • Quartz welding experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a scientific or industrial glassblowing environment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent bending, stooping, walking, sitting, and overhead reaching.
  • Ability to work near high temperatures (PPE provided).
  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment with noise, temperature changes, moving machinery, and quartz materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly; push, pull, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work overtime and maintain productivity in a fast‑paced environment.

Pre-employment testing, which includes a background check and drug screen, is required.
