Job description
Job Title:Spanish Hispanophone Literature & Culture, FT Faculty CFS Professorial
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University announces a search for a candidate to fill a CFS-track (analogous to tenure-track) faculty position. We are particularly interested in candidates whose teaching and research complement the current profile of literature and culture faculty within the department. Initial rank will be consistent with qualifications and experience.

Required Degree:PhD in Hispanic/Spanish literature, cultural studies, or equivalent. Foreign degrees acceptable. PhD in Portuguese, Comparative Literature, or a related field will be considered if the candidate can fulfill the duties/expectations of the position.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience:Experience teaching Spanish courses at the university level and performing scholarly research. Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English is also required. The ability to teach Portuguese literature/culture classes is also highly valued, although not required.
Duties/Expectations:
This professorial position has a course-load of 3-2-1 (18 credit-hours per year). Professorial faculty are also expected to participate actively in academia through scholarly production appropriate to the area of specialization and serve on departmental, college, and university committees. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
1. Teaching
- Teach six courses per year. These include a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Introduction to Hispanic Literature, Cultures of Spain and Spanish America, and/or other courses, depending on expertise.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students, including them in mentored research initiatives.
2. Scholarship
- Maintain a robust research agenda, publishing regularly in respected venues.
3. Citizenship
- Faculty lend service to the college, university, and profession at large, as well as contribute actively to the life of the department.
- Faculty are expected to work in a respectful and collegial manner with all colleagues, including department faculty and staff, adjunct faculty, and student instructors.
