These packages can include reimbursement for moving expenses, temporary housing, travel costs, and sometimes even assistance with selling a current home or finding a new one. The specifics of what's included can vary widely depending on the company, position, and distance of the move. Employers offer relocation packages to make the transition smoother for employees and to attract talent from a wider geographic area.

What Is a Relocation Package?

A relocation package is a set of financial incentives and assistance for a new or existing employee who is being transferred from one office to another location. Many different industries offer jobs with relocation packages, which typically covers moving expenses, furniture storage fees, any travel and transportation costs, and temporary housing if necessary. Some other industries that offer relocation packages include sales, engineering, construction, oil and gas extraction, and health care.

What is a reasonable relocation package?

The scope varies based on the job level, industry, and distance of relocation, with packages often ranging from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars. Employers may also offer additional support like assistance with home sale or purchase and visa expenses for international moves.
