Make a Difference in Someone's Next Chapter
Are you looking for meaningful work where you can make a real difference in people's lives?
Downsizing by Design is seeking compassionate, dependable, and hardworking Support Associates to help seniors and families through one of life's biggest transitions. Whether someone is moving into a smaller home, transitioning to senior living, or helping a loved one relocate, our team provides the hands-on support, organization, and care they need during an emotional time.
If you enjoy staying active, working with a team, helping others, and creating positive experiences for people, we'd love to meet you.
About Us
At Downsizing by Design, our mission is to simplify life's transitions with compassion, dignity, and exceptional service.
We specialize in helping seniors and families with:
  • Downsizing and decluttering
  • Packing and unpacking
  • Organizing homes
  • Preparing homes for moving
  • Setting up new homes so they feel comfortable from day one

We understand that every move represents a major life change, and we are committed to treating every client-and every belonging-with care and respect.
Position Overview
As a Support Associate, you'll work alongside our team to help clients prepare for and complete residential moves. Every day is different, but your work will directly impact families by making stressful situations easier and more manageable.
This is an active, hands-on position that combines customer service, teamwork, organization, packing, and light moving.
Projects typically range from 2 to 8 hours, depending on client needs.
What You'll Do
  • Assist clients with sorting belongings into items to keep, donate, sell, gift, recycle, or discard.
  • Carefully pack household goods, including fragile items, artwork, antiques, and valuables.
  • Label and organize boxes for efficient moving and unpacking.
  • Help unpack and organize clients' new homes.
  • Assist with light furniture movement and household setup.
  • Work closely with team members to complete projects safely and efficiently.
  • Provide compassionate, respectful, and professional customer service.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Handle clients' personal belongings with the utmost care and confidentiality.
  • Represent Downsizing by Design professionally at all times.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are:
  • Compassionate and patient
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Physically active and enjoy hands-on work
  • Positive and team-oriented
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Professional and respectful
  • Comfortable working in clients' homes
  • Flexible with changing project needs

Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel throughout DuPage, Kane, Will, West Cook, North Cook, and Northwest Cook counties.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and remain active throughout the workday.
  • Comfortable bending, standing, climbing stairs, packing, and moving household items.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Experience in moving, packing, organizing, retail, hospitality, senior care, home services, or warehouse work is a plus-but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

What You'll Love About Working With Us
  • Flexible, project-based scheduling.
  • Meaningful work helping seniors and families.
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Variety-every project is different.
  • Active work instead of sitting behind a desk.
  • Opportunity to build relationships with appreciative clients.

Schedule
This is a flexible, part-time position.
Projects are scheduled based on client needs and may be assigned with short notice.
Typical shifts range from 2 to 8 hours, with opportunities for additional hours as business needs increase.
Why Join Downsizing by Design?
We believe moving is about more than boxes-it's about helping people through important life transitions with compassion, dignity, and care.
If you're looking for rewarding work where you can make a positive impact every day, we'd love to hear from you.
