Middle School Religion & Social Studies Teacher

Holy Family Catholic School

Position Overview

Holy Family Catholic School in Galveston, TX, seeks a dedicated and faith-?lled Religion and Social Studies Teacher who is committed to forming students academically, spiritually, and morally. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic who models the teachings of the Church, fosters a vibrant classroom rooted in Gospel values, and delivers engaging instruction that supports student growth across multiple disciplines. The position will be under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing Archdiocesan approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing speci?c educational needs of individuals students and by creating a ?exible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.

Essential Functions: Religious Education

  • Teach daily religion classes aligned with Catholic doctrine and the curriculum approved by the Diocese.
  • Integrate Catholic identity into classroom culture, prayer, and daily routines.
  • Support students in preparing for liturgies, sacraments, service projects, and other faith-based activities.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and parish staf to strengthen the spiritual life of the school community.

Social Studies Instruction

  • Plan and deliver standards-based lessons in Social Studies that promote critical thinking, historical understanding, civic responsibility, and cultural awareness.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Foster inquiry, discussion, and real-world connections to deepen student engagement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that re?ects Catholic values.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school events.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support cross-curricular learning and school-wide initiatives.
  • Uphold and model the mission, philosophy, and expectations of Holy Family Catholic School.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church (required for teaching Religion).
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related ?eld; advanced degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certi?cation or willingness to pursue certi?cation as required by the Diocese.
  • Strong understanding of Catholic theology, Church teachings, and liturgical life.
  • Experience teaching elementary or middle school students preferred.
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
