Emory University’s Department of Film and Media invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Media Industry Studies to begin on August 1, 2027. The successful applicant will join a growing, dynamic undergraduate program at a R1 research university which offers a Film and Media major and minor, a minor in Media Production, and a Concentration in Film and Media Management (a joint program with the Goizueta Business School)
We are looking for an active and innovative scholar who can enrich and expand our existing strengths in Media Industry Studies. We welcome applications from scholars with a wide range of specializations and methodological approaches. We are particularly interested in scholars who take a critical approach to the historical and contemporary study of the film, television, and digital media industries, and who have a strong training in the broader field of cinema and media studies.
In addition to offering courses in their area of expertise, this hire will be expected to teach media industry classes, including History of the American Media Industry, Introduction to Media Industries, and the Film and Media Management Concentration capstone course. Special consideration will be given to those who can also teach existing core curriculum courses, including but not limited to, American TV History.
Media industry studies is an area of growth for our department, and we are particularly interested in candidates who have experience or interest in curriculum building; leading experiential learning opportunities for students like our summer program in LA, Treks to LA and NYC, and site visits in Atlanta; mentoring of students interested in careers in the media industry; and alumni engagement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Film & Media Studies or a related field at the time of appointment
- Evidence of a program of sustained scholarship and an active research agenda
- At least 2 years of successful teaching experience at the university level
- Interest in contributing to a scholarly community that prioritizes equity and inclusion
