A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

As a Customer Service Representative, you play an essential role in providing excellent customer service and driving sales for our company. You are the first point of contact customers have when they enter our store, and you assist them with any service requests while maintaining a friendly and positive attitude. When customers call our store, you answer the phone in a timely manner in order to provide responses to any questions or inquiries they may have. Some of the requests you often find yourself helping with involve providing prices, checking item availability, processing orders, replenishing display items, and conducting research when needed to find solutions. 

In addition, you provide recommendations to customers based on their individual needs as well as relay important company and industry information. Because of your excellent service, you consistently meet our company's performance standards and goals as defined by your manager. You also ensure that customers receive efficient and expedient service while recognizing opportunities for additional sales. When customers are ready to finalize a purchase, you perform all front counter procedures according to guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

  •  High school diploma or equivalent
  •  Experience with in-person customer service

  •  Excellent phone skills
  •  Basic math skills

Full Job Description:

Counter Sales personnel are the first employees that customers meet upon entering our stores. They are responsible for providing excellent customer service while handling the sales process, from the time of the first request to the execution of the order.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist walk-in/call-in customers with routine requests in a friendly and positive manner
    • Provide pricing and availability
    • Identify, research, and resolve customer issues
    • Process customer orders  
    • Pick orders for will call customers
    • Assist in replenishing display items 
    • Assist in maintaining professional appearance of store front 
  • Be a single solution source for customers
    • Understand and utilize other departments
    • Relay important company/industry information 
    • Recommend appropriate products to enhance customer experience
  • Maintain customer relationships
  • Manage incoming calls and customer service inquiries 
  • Identify and assess customer needs to achieve satisfaction
  • Build sustainable relationships and trust with customer accounts through open and interactive communication
  • Provide accurate, valid, and complete information by using suitable methods/tools 
  • Handle customer complaints, provide appropriate solutions and alternatives within the time limits; follow up to ensure resolution
  • Meet company performance standards and goals as defined by your manager 
  • Ensure customers receive efficient and expedient service 
  • Recognize and act on opportunities for additional sales
  • Perform all front counter operations and procedures 
  • Must be able to pass certification of training on warehouse equipment where applicable (e.g., fork truck, wave picker, pallet jack, etc.)

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  • Engage in continuous self-training to expand product knowledge 
  • Back up warehouse duties as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness of facilities
  • Other duties as assigned by management

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent communication skills required

  • 1 year of prior customer service experience preferred
  • Familiar with computer operation, including data entry experience with multiple screens
  • Basic math skills required
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED
