Johnson County Mental Health Center is seeking a Crisis Case Manager to join its partnership with the Overland Park Police Department's Co-Responder Program. This position will primarily serve citizens of Overland Park with an emphasis on individuals who may struggle with substance misuse.
The Crisis Case Manager is a new position that will be part of the Overland Park Crisis Action Team (OPCAT) within the Overland Park Police Department. In this role, the Crisis Case Manager will work alongside law enforcement officers, primarily OPCAT officers, Heartland Regional Drug and Alcohol Assessment Center (HRADAC) and co-responders to better serve individuals who frequently rely on emergency services, particularly those affected by substance use, addiction, and related social challenges, by connecting them with appropriate care, support systems, and community resources that address their unmet needs.
The Crisis Case Manager has a critical role in connecting individuals to appropriate treatment providers, recovery supports, housing resources, and community-based services, while enhancing collaboration among partner agencies to improve outcomes and reduce repeat emergency and law enforcement contacts.
This position will be based at the Overland Park Police Department. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a working lunch; however, flexibility is required to work occasional evenings to meet the needs of the individuals and families served.

Job DescriptionAdditional duties include: Assertive outreach and engagement to individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis by building rapport, assessing motivation, and encouraging participation in services. Working with police officers and co-responders to assess and develop plans to address high utilization of emergency services by individuals with behavioral health issues. Working with the OPTIONS officer and clinician to carry a crisis case management caseload; connecting individuals who have multi-faceted needs to ongoing supports and services. Assessing individuals' circumstances to identify needs and/or determine service eligibility. Collaborating with community partners to connect individuals to appropriate care and problem solving accordingly to ensure engagement. Networking with other community agencies to coordinate resources and services for the client's benefit. Reviewing police reports and determining appropriate next steps, including follow up, additional resources, and referrals. Completing and submitting documentation regarding services provided.
Job RequirementsMinimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field is required. May require KS/MO driver's license, depending on department or agency.
Candidates must be able to meet REJIS/KCJIS requirements (for law enforcement positions) and will be required to successfully complete a background investigation, including post-offer polygraph and drug screen, as a condition of employment.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
Preferred Job Requirements:
One year of related work experience is preferred.
Education/Experience Substitutions:
Experience may be substituted for degree. Education may be substituted for experience.
In some instances, statutory or regulatory requirements may prohibit substitution of education and/or experience.
Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
