What does a regional security officer do?
As a regional security officer, you ensure the safety and security of diplomats and their families, as well as embassy facilities. Fulfilling the responsibilities and duties of an RSO requires the ability to travel with ambassadors as needed, familiarity with various law enforcement techniques, and maintaining the extremely high requirements of this position. Regional security officers often stay overseas for months at a time and, when possible, learn to speak foreign languages to help provide better protection for embassies. Regional security officers work exclusively through the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service, usually as government employees, and are often the senior security attaché at any given embassy.
