Job description

NYU Langone Health seeks a highly skilled and experienced Heart and Lung Procurement Surgeon to join our renowned Department and Transplant Institute.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the procurement of thoracic organs (heart, lung, heart-lung block).
  • Perform meticulous organ evaluations and execute technically demanding surgical recovery procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with the transplant team and participate in innovative techniques such as normothermic regional perfusion.
  • Supervise and mentor surgical assistants, perfusionists, and other support staff involved in the organ recovery process.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call coverage on a rotational basis, ensuring timely and effective response to urgent procurement requests.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of innovative procurement strategies and protocols.
  • Contribute to research and educational activities within the department.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the organ procurement process.
  • Participate in the Cardiogenic shock program, including ECMO cannulation and management.
  • Board certification in Cardiac Surgery is essential.
  • Fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Transplant, Lung Transplant, or Thoracic Surgery is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience in thoracic organ procurement as a primary surgeon within a leading academic medical center.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain an unrestricted NYS medical license.
