Job description

About the Role

HJ Staffing is hiring Trash Collectors to support the client's Solid Waste operations. In this role, you'll play a hands-on part in keeping Laredo clean collecting residential and commercial waste, operating equipment on collection routes, and helping maintain clean, safe streets and neighborhoods throughout the city.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants steady, active outdoor work with a reputable municipal client and a clear path toward long-term placement.

What You'll Do
  • Ride collection routes and empty trash/recycling containers into the compactor unit on the garbage truck
  • Operate hydraulic lift levers and related truck equipment safely and correctly
  • Inspect carts and containers for objects that could damage equipment (rocks, dirt, wood, metal, etc.)
  • Remove garbage and debris from residential and commercial areas and ensure proper disposal
  • Check sidewalks, curbs, and collection areas to confirm they're left clean after pickup
  • Assist with general street maintenance activities as needed
  • Communicate professionally with residents, coworkers, and City staff while on route
  • Follow all safety procedures and City of Laredo policies at all times
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
What You'll Need
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening; subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a safety-sensitive position
  • Basic knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, safe equipment operation and handling practices
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, not required
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors and is physically active
  • Regular exposure to weather elements (heat, cold, dampness) and outdoor conditions (dust, noise, uneven surfaces)
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 20 lbs constantly to move objects, containers, and equipment
  • Frequent bending, lifting, walking, and riding on collection equipment
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
