Refocus Mentor
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Principal the purpose of the Refocus Mentor position is to provide support to the instructional program within the assigned school with specific responsibility for overseeing students who are exhibiting minor behavior concerns. This position will also provide support to the Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) efforts and the Tier I behavior team at their school.
Essential Job Functions
  • Serve as an intervention specialist to students who are displaying behavior concerns above normal classroom Tier 1 misbehavior.
  • May assist with implementation of behavioral plans designed by IEP team or Behavior Assistance Team for students exhibiting behavior that prevent their success in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with others (teachers, parents, and administrators) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
  • Coordinate program components, support needs and materials for the purpose of meeting District guidelines.
  • Maintain a variety of detailed records for the purpose of meeting reporting requirements.
  • Monitor student behavior for the purpose of ensuring student success.
  • Supervise assigned students within or outside the classroom during regular school hours on a limited basis.
  • May supervise and manage students in non-classroom activities, such as cafeteria, recess, and busing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring positive classroom learning environments and experiences.
  • Assist in maintaining documents, files and records for the purpose of informing teachers and/or parents of students' progress.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to available resources.
  • Contact parents through phone call or other means when parent involvement is needed to collaborate about their student's behavior.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment
  • Works in standard office and school building environments.
  • Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Qualifications Profile:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years or older.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior successful clerical experience preferred.

FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Contract:
*26 hours per week, 178 day per year, time card.
Support Professional Employees Salary Schedule, Level O1 - $17.94 per hour (additional pay given for experience and higher education)
