Job description

POSITION:  Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer 

LOCATION: Jupiter, FL. 

STATUS: Salary Exempt 

Job Summary:

The Conversions Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for providing E&I design, installation and field leadership for gas turbine combustor and auxiliary conversion projects. This position works with a variety of internal and external teams to lead E&I engineering and technical project management activities related to gas turbine system conversions, modifications, and upgrades, that may consist of multiple concurrent system installations.

Essential duties & responsibilities

The essential functions of the job include the following:

  • Act as a technical focal point for the Electrical and Instrumentation aspects of GT Conversions Projects, working as a partner with the Project Management Office and interfacing with other teams in the organization including Supply Chain, Combustion Product Engineering, and Field Services.
  • Specify electrical equipment and instruments, including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices, gas turbine related electrical equipment such as thermocouples and ignitors, feedback devices, and controllers.
  • Support mechanical design efforts by specifying control valves, actuators and related components.
  • Lead IPTs for the electrical system design scope as required by the project and develop, collect, and release standard reference documentation per Hanwha Process OP3031.
  • Develop and manage design plans for assigned projects to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Work with the customer by providing technical and project insights and updates.
  • Create system-level and component-level specifications and drawings such as wiring/loop diagrams, I/O lists, P&IDs, schematics, as-built redlines, and VC drawings.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to OTS providers on design and installation related activities, acting as a focal point to ensure consistency and continuity in design and execution.
  • Perform calculations and analyses to support system design efforts and verify sound design practices are used.
  • Review and approve project documentation that will be used during the installation.
  • Prepare for and conduct Conversions Design Reviews (CDR) and Installation Readiness Reviews (IRR) per Hanwha Process OP3031.
  • Execute Risk Reviews per engineering design procedures, highlighting top project risks, assisting in the development of mitigation strategies and addressing all action items.
  • Work closely with Project Management to maintain alignment on program milestones and dates and report on project performance.
  • Generate schedules, identify critical path activities, and align resources to ensure on time delivery of designs, manufactured parts, procurement of components, contractor selection, and on-site execution.
  • Manage and track engineering labor and OTS budgets for assigned projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to OTS providers on design and installation related activities, acting as a focal point to ensure consistency and continuity in design and execution.
  • Generate scopes of work for OTS provider use, evaluate contractor and supplier bids for technical and commercial content, and select suppliers that best support the project or bid.
  • Support the Tendering Technical Risk Review process by analyzing engine data and providing performance improvement calculations, identifying project risks, calculating risk costs and providing full scope project estimates.
  • Conduct site walkdowns during the tendering phase and post award for assigned projects. 
  • Support on site conversion project installations by providing field advisory services, ensuring contractors execute their scopes per plan.
  • Report project status and milestones to line management.
  • Refine existing engineering procedures or develop new ones for continuous efficiency & quality improvement as well as lower execution cost.
  • Create, lead and/or deliver technical presentations to internal and external clients.
  • Up to 20% travel required
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related technical field. 
  • Equivalent industry experience will also be considered
  • Completion of assigned regulatory training for the work area as described by Hanwha’s EHS Training Matrix.


Skills/Experience

  • 5-7 years of applicable experience in the GT industry, with 2-5 years of experience related to Gas Turbine electrical design and field support.
  • Working knowledge of gas turbine construction and ancillary systems such as fuel delivery, purge, instrument air and hydraulic supplies, understanding of associated limits and alarms and ability to troubleshoot and correct issues, being hardware or software related, is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of GT control systems such as Speedtronic Mark V, Mark VI or VIe logic sequences and HMI screens and interfaces in Cimplicity.
  • Working knowledge of Siemens T3000 and Emerson Ovation a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of instrument calibration procedures and tasks associated with commissioning of gas turbines. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical concepts with clarity and coach, mentor others on technical issues.
  • Proven ability to perform analysis and calculations for sizing and specifying electrical components and complete systems. Experience with E-plan, Autocad or similar applications is strongly desired.
  • Experience working with technical teams, customers, suppliers, and on-site contractors at a project level is strongly desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong skills with MS Office programs.
  • Strong decision making and organizational skills are required.
  • Proven track record of EHS leadership by example.
  • Multilingual capability is a plus.
