Deerwood Country Club is a premier private club in Jacksonville, Florida, featuring a meticulously maintained 18-hole championship golf course, full practice facilities, and exceptional amenities including tennis, aquatics, and dining experiences for members and their guests.
We are seeking Red Cross certified Lifeguards to help ensure a safe and enjoyable pool environment for our members and guests. This part-time, seasonal role offers flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays. Job purpose
Basic function is to ensure the safety of the pool patrons, maintain a clean and safe pool environment and observe and enforce pool and related area rules and regulations.
Duties and responsibilities
  • Maintain a current American Red Cross Life Guard training Certificate, current American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer Adult and Pediatric or other certification recognized by the Florida Statutes required for certification for swimming instructors and lifeguards, participate in all in-service training sessions, and pass required test which include the ability to swim 500 yards without stopping, pool chemical testing, and equipment usage.
  • Must have working knowledge of lifesaving apparatus introduced in Lifesaving courses, i.e. AED units.
  • Protect and ensure safe conditions for members and guests. Preventing accidents and eliminating hazardous conditions in the water and/ or surrounding areas are priority via quick emergency response.
  • Must constantly scan the assigned areas and be able to recognize water participants who need assistance.
  • Administer any first aid needed by a victim of any accident based on current training.
  • Adhere to established emergency procedures, complete reports in a concise and timely manner.
  • Respond quickly to all emergency situations in the water and/ or in the surrounding areas. Must be able to assist anyone in distress or drowning situations.
  • Observe and enforce all rules and regulations. Educate and inform members and guests diplomatically
  • regarding this information.
  • Immediately notify management staff of any accidents, maintenance problems, or any violations of rules by patrons.
  • Complete daily, weekly, quarterly and annual opening and closing checklists. Observe daily sanitation requirements in regard to water conditions, i.e. chlorine, pH (acidity) content and be able to safely administer chemicals as needed per training and age eligibility. Maintain daily log of water test conditions for the inspection of the local health agency.
  • Vacuum pool bottom, empty automatic skimmers, and skim bugs from the pool. Clean pool-related equipment, i.e. pool skimmer, etc.
  • Complete maintenance practices to ensure a clean and presentable facility.
  • When experiencing down time, assist pool manager or office staff with other facility duties.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensures safe us of the slide and diving boards and restricts dangerous activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications include:
  • Valid Lifeguarding Certification
  • Valid CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
  • Valid First Aid Certification
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills

Working conditions
Work is primarily outdoors. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or solvents if proper safety procedures are not followed.

Physical requirements
Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitors and develops subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, write and read member communication.
Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 40 lbs., up to 30 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. constantly. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. Ability to consistently lift, carry and load adaptive and other sports equipment that may weigh 50 or more pounds, and sustain aerobic activity for 20 consecutive minutes.
Please be advised that all work that requires the use of a ladder more than 8 ft. long must be reviewed by Hampton Golf's Club Maintenance person. Following an assessment of the situation, a determination will be made as to whether a maintenance team member or subcontractors will perform the necessary maintenance task. No other staff member is authorized to climb to heights exceeding 8 ft. and/or perform such maintenance. In addition, personnel are prohibited from entering facility attics, walking on the roof of buildings and/or from using scaffolding.
Use the following safety precautions when using an 8ft. ladder:
  • Correct placement of the ladder. The safest angle for a straight ladder is to ensure it is placed on-fourth the distance from the base to the point of support. "A" frame ladders naturally comply.
  • Ensure the ladder is placed on a firm level surface, and do not place the ladder near a doorway.
  • Ensure there are non-skid shoes on the ladder.
  • If using a medal ladder, be sure that it is not near electrical wires.
  • One person on a ladder at one time, and ensure another staff member is holding the ladder in position.
  • Never overreach.
