DEPARTMENT: Aquatics

Reports To: Assistant Aquatics Director

Schedule: Seasonal, part-time, or full-time

Availability Requirement: Must be available to work weekends and holidays during peak season (May–September) Compensation: Competitive; based on experience

Burning Tree Country Club is seeking responsible, attentive, and safety-focused Lifeguards to support the operations of our aquatics facilities. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of Members and guests using the Club’s pool and aquatic areas.

Lifeguards maintain constant surveillance of the pool environment, enforce facility rules, and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. Through professionalism, strong situational awareness, and a commitment to safety, lifeguards help create a secure and welcoming environment for all swimmers and guests.

Who You Are

You are responsible, attentive, and able to remain calm under pressure. You:

• Are at least 16 years of age

• Have lifeguarding certification (American Red Cross required)

• Have first aid certification and CPR training (CPR training may be provided) • Can perform a daily swim test (20 laps) • Remain calm and focused during emergencies

• Demonstrate strong awareness of surroundings and swimmer safety

• Communicate clearly and professionally with Members and coworkers

The Essentials (Core Responsibilities)

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool and surrounding areas to ensure swimmer safety

• Prevent injuries by identifying and minimizing hazardous situations or behaviors

• Enforce facility rules and regulations and educate Members about pool safety

• Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies

• Administer first aid, CPR, AED assistance, and oxygen when necessary

• Perform pool maintenance tasks including vacuuming and skimming

• Conduct hourly water testing and maintain appropriate chemical levels

• Assist with pool area cleanliness and upkeep

• Check in Members and guests using the aquatics facilities

• Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety in the event of an emergency

• Provide emergency care until medical professionals arrive

• Present a professional appearance and maintain a positive, service-oriented attitude

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pool environment

• Complete activity and safety reports as required

• Follow all Club safety policies and aquatics protocols

• Perform additional duties as assigned by aquatics leadership

The Standards (Qualifications & Professional Conduct)

Education & Experience

• Minimum age of 16

• Prior lifeguarding experience preferred

Certifications

• Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross)

• CPR Certification (American Red Cross)

• First Aid Certification (American Red Cross)

• Certifications must remain current throughout employment

Skills & Communication

• Strong communication and customer service skills

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

• Ability to respond effectively in routine and emergency situations

• Ability to complete basic reports and documentation

Physical Requirements

• Ability to demonstrate lifeguarding skills according to American Red Cross standards

• Ability to swim required distance (20 laps daily)

• Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds

• Ability to remain alert and active for extended periods
