A Day on the Job Summary:

Lifeguards are essential in implementing all water safety policies and procedures at Country Club of Detroit’s Summer Village pool area. This includes both our lap pool and our splash pad. Lifeguards supervise Members and guests in and around the pool area. We are currently looking for lifeguards to assist with our opening shifts, Monday through Friday from 5:45 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. The typical lifeguard season goes from May 26th through September 4th.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Proactively prevent, recognize, and respond promptly and effectively to aquatic emergencies
  • Provide professional-level care for respiratory and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel assume responsibility
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, adhering to uniform and safety equipment standards
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the drowning process and identify behaviors or conditions that may lead to life-threatening situations
  • Perform assigned maintenance duties to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained facility
  • Attend and actively participate in all mandatory in-service training sessions to maintain and enhance lifeguarding skills
  • Enforce CCD policies, including dress code and conduct standards, as directed by supervisor
  • Complete opening and/or closing procedures in accordance with established protocols
  • Conduct daily facility safety inspections to ensure all emergency response equipment is functional, accessible, and properly positioned
  • Report unresolved member or guest concerns, disruptions, or safety issues to the Pool Director in a timely manner
Requirements:

Minimum Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Current American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications required
  • Demonstrate mental, physical, and emotional readiness to always perform job duties effectively
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and conduct in all interactions
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with individuals of all ages and diverse backgrounds
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and other assigned shifts as needed

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach, walk, stand, stoop, balance and/or crouch
  • Continuous repetitive motions
  • Physical exertion over long periods of time
  • Work in hot and humid environments
  • Push, pull, and lift 50 pounds
  • Working in slippery and wet conditions
  • Able to work in a busy, noisy environment
  • Able to tolerate the smell of chlorine and frequent exposure to cleaning agents
