Job description

Definition
Provides scheduled and unscheduled medical transportation services and delivers passengers to the appropriate location.
Responds to hospitals, nursing homes, and other locations to provide medical transportation services.
Provides safe movement of medical teams and/or passengers to and from wheelchairs/stretchers at homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities.
Provides passenger safety monitoring en route to destinations and during transportation to, from, and/or between facilities.
Provides passenger monitoring in accordance with state law and adheres to company, local, regional, and state guidelines.
Performs other duties as directed.
Reports To
Field Supervisor or Operations Manager, as appropriate, for all operational activities.
Specific Duties
  • Demonstrates complete knowledge, understanding, and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that vehicles and all equipment are ready for use at the beginning of each shift and after every call. This includes appropriate cleaning and disinfection of the interior and exterior of vehicles; cleaning and disinfecting equipment; inspecting, restocking, and completing daily checklists; and performing routine maintenance.
  • Ensures the security of buildings, vehicles, equipment, medications, and all other company property.
  • Performs daily inspections of assigned bases and/or stations for cleanliness and carries out appropriate housekeeping duties to maintain clean, clutter-free, and sanitary living quarters.
  • Maintains appropriate communications with company dispatch, medical control, and other agencies via radio, data link, pager, or cell phone as required.
  • Maintains knowledge of local geography, including hospitals, public venues, streets, and highway systems.
  • Responds to hospitals, nursing homes, and other locations to provide courier and medical transportation services.
  • Provides safe passenger movement to and from wheelchairs/stretchers at homes, hospitals, nursing homes, airports, and other facilities.
  • Provides passenger safety monitoring en route to hospitals and during transportation to, from, and/or between facilities.
  • Provides passenger monitoring in accordance with state law and company, local, regional, and state guidelines.
  • Appropriately and safely delivers passengers to the appropriate medical facility.
  • Acts at all times in the best interests of high-quality passenger care and in a manner that reflects positively on the company and the professional reputation of the Driver.
  • Maintains personal safety and the safety of partners, passengers, other personnel, bystanders, and public safety personnel at all times.
  • Accompanies passengers to their destination, continuing appropriate monitoring and advocacy until care has been transferred to an appropriate medical professional and a report has been provided.
  • Completes and signs all appropriate documentation for every response and transport.
  • Obtains complete medical histories and billing information for all passengers and/or cargo transported.
  • Maintains the security and privacy of all company and passenger information in accordance with HIPAA and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Adheres to Universal Precautions and Body Substance Isolation protocols when dealing with passenger contacts and follows company Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains CPR, First Aid, and all other required licenses and certifications as required by company, local, regional, and state policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Reports to assigned shifts on time, properly groomed and in uniform, unless appropriate notification has been provided. Remains on duty and in proper uniform until relieved.
  • Sets an example of professionalism and leadership for others to follow. Places passenger care excellence and safety above all else.
  • Performs other duties as directed by management.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and responsibility.
  • Must be currently licensed, certified, or registered by the appropriate state agencies.
  • Must be currently certified in CPR through the American Heart Association (AHA) or another approved organization.
  • Must be currently certified in First Aid through the American Red Cross (ARC) or another approved organization.
  • Must become certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within one year of hire.
  • Must possess the appropriate state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record acceptable to the company's vehicle liability insurer.
  • Must successfully complete a CEVO ambulance driver safety classroom and practical course.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision while exercising sound judgment.
  • Must have the ability to work efficiently and interact professionally with coworkers, public safety personnel, and medical staff.
  • Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with passengers, customers, clients, family members, bystanders, and the general public in a manner that reflects positively on the company.
  • Must demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary to provide high-quality passenger care.

  • The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty.
  • The ability to bend, stoop, squat and kneel for long periods of time.

  • The ability to complete all job duties during any and all hours of the day and night.
