Job description

Overview

As a Skilled Laborer/Groundman, you will support aerial and underground outside plant (OSP) telecommunications construction projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Work may include fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) installations, conduit and manhole construction, trenching, plowing, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), micro-trenching, vacuum excavation, cable pulling and blowing, aerial construction, pole work, and service drop installation, depending on project requirements and terrain.


Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Follow directions from the Foreman or Supervisor to complete field labor tasks safely and efficiently
  • Assist with shoveling, brush clearing, site cleanup, landscaping, vehicle washing, loading/unloading, and material handling
  • Monitor excavation work to prevent utility strikes
  • Follow safety procedures and use required protective equipment
  • Operate or assist with trucks, trailers, and equipment, as trained
  • Handle inventory, tools, and equipment safely and follow jobsite procedures
  • Climb poles safely when trained and certified

About you:

You are safety-minded, dependable, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather and challenging conditions. You take pride in quality work, enjoy solving problems, and willingly contribute on a hands-on team.

  • You want to learn the telecom construction trade to advance your career, like equipment operation, aerial lineman, Coax Splicing, Fiber Splicing, Directional Drilling, etc.
  • You have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a DOT med card for driving purposes (CDL is highly preferred; Applicants are subject to an MVR review, and must meet company standards for a safe driving record)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs
  • Ability to read maps, drawings, diagrams, and schematics
  • Climbing certification or related experience is preferred (required for pole work assignments)
  • Overhead or underground outside plant fiber construction experience, is preferred
  • Knowledge of overhead materials, clearance codes, and network design, is preferred
  • Flagger certification preferred or ability to obtain it, as needed
