About the Position ###################################################### THIS IS AN INTERNAL "ONLY" JOB POSTING, AVAILABLE TO CURRENT Montgomery County GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. #####################################################*# This Position is ONLY Open to Montgomery County Government Employees: Current Montgomery County Government employees; Montgomery County employees who were affected by a reduction-in-force and currently have RIF priority rights; Active Montgomery County local fire and rescue department volunteers with at least 50 points under the length of service award program (LOSAP); or Active Project SEARCH Interns or former Montgomery County Government Customized Employment Public Interns, or Project SEARCH Interns within 24 months of completion of internship. Please note: The salary range above represents this position's earning potential.
The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $64,104 - $77,504, based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. WHO WE ARE Montgomery County Department of Recreation is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency with a mission to provide high-quality, diverse and accessible community-based programs, activities and services that serve the recreation and leisure needs of the Montgomery County community. The department manages 39 facilities, including recreation centers, senior centers and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs and therapeutic recreation.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Department is seeking a dynamic and experienced Recreation Coordinator, whose skills and knowledge will be utilized to support community, neighborhood and county-wide special events and managing the department's warehouse. The responsibilities include but are not limited to organizing, administering, coordinating, and facilitating a range of community and specialized recreational program activities that are limited in scope, size, and complexity. What You'll Be Doing This work includes: Ensuring compliance with the rules on the use of the facility and equipment Developing and conducting surveys and program evaluations Participating in the planning and execution of community and county-wide events and specialized recreational programs and activities typically occurring on weekends, early mornings and evenings Maintaining scheduled use of the facility using recreation-specific activities software, such as RecTrac Assisting with program implementation by coordinating and scheduling equipment, safety and security needs Setting-up, breaking-down, transporting, storing, maintaining and/or repairing relevant equipment including lifting of heavy equipment Monitoring event operations, general facility/grounds activities and assuring clean-up Instructing and/or leading recreation programs and activities as assigned Leading warehouse support by receiving, storing, inventorying and distribution of supplies and ensuring warehouse is accessible during set hours and communicating closures Assist with department's fleet through tracking and meeting maintenance requirements Driving County vehicles including vans and box trucks loaded with equipment and supplies (often responsible for loading and unloading) Supporting Communications and Public Outreach ordering and inventory of promotional items to be utilized at Department events Knowledge of county policies, rules, regulations, procedures and county, state, and federal laws Additional Information The selected candidate will be required to complete a background investigation and a Limited Core Exam before appointment. This position requires: Work during nontraditional hours, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting 20 pounds or more.
Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and extreme temperatures. Attendance at activities and meetings, and performance of work, at locations outside the assigned facility. Completion of mandatory trainings within the first three to six months of employment, or within the timeframe specified, to support a positive workplace and ensure compliance with federal, state, and County laws.
Minimum Qualifications In addition to the MQs from the PD/Class Spec, if the minimum qualifications from the Classification Specification do not fully describe the needs of your position, add the relevant areas of experience below: At the Recreation Coordinator Level: Experience: One (1) year of recreation work experience involving planning, organizing, and directing recreational activities or special interest recreation program activities/services. Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence when required for job-related duties. Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevancy of training, and experience in the following areas: Planning and organizing a wide variety of activities and/or special events. Knowledge of recreation methods, procedures, practices, and regulations.
Working in recreation and community settings, and experience monitoring, maintaining, and collecting equipment and information. Ability to drive county vehicles, including but not limited to cars, vans, and trucks. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and ACTIVE, RecTracor, and other database software applications.
