Job description

**Starting hourly rate of $23.00 per hour, plus the shift differentials of $2.00 for 3rd Shift ** 

** Hours, ranging from 8 to 30 hours per week, and the shift schedule 3rd Shift including weekends and holidays**

  • This position is on an as needed basis

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support the admission, transfer, and discharge process for the patient.
    • Perform luggage checks and transfer luggage weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Conduct on person searches and document patient belongings.
    • Facilitate new patient orientation and unit tours.
  2. Organize patient movement.
    • Help organize patients for off-campus appointments as required.
    • Ensure patient attendance to scheduled programming and accompany and/or monitor as required.
    • Accompany patients to meals and activities.
    • Assist with guest speakers and in-house recovery support meetings.
    • Monitor and direct patients during emergency evacuations.
  3. Assist the clinical and admission teams to monitor and assess patient behavior with supervision/support of a clinical or administrative staff member.
    • Assist elopement, Against Medical Advice (AMA), and Against Staff Advice (ASA) protocols.
    • Maintain communication with clinical staff regarding patient issues.
    • Conduct and document hourly head counts of patients or their whereabouts.
    • Document patient behavior in electronic medical record.
    • De-escalate patients.
    • Perform daily room/perimeter checks and periodic room searches.
    • Educate patients with behavioral health disorders on the use of recovery-oriented stress management, social, relational, and coping skills to build and sustain recovery.
    • Conduct the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) when indicated.
    • Follow protocol for patients returning from off-site passes, including but not limited to observation of urine, drug screenings, breathalyzers, completion of on-person search and luggage search.
  4. May present educational lectures with clinically approved materials.
  5. Monitor and work with patients to ensure common areas are kept clean, neat, safe, and presentable.

  5. Must be able to work overtime/extended hours, holidays and during periods of inclement weather as needed.     

Education / Experience / Qualifications: 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Requires proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  3. Requires a basic understanding of substance use disorders and recovery program philosophies.
  4. Must be 21 years of age or older.
  5. Requires a current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license with at least 5 years of driving experience.
  6. Experience working with respective populations is preferred.
  7. If in recovery, 2 years of continuous sobriety is preferred.
  8. This is a safety sensitive position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  1. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the principles and philosophies of recovery programs (i.e. 12 Steps, Dharma Recovery, SMART Recovery, etc.)
  2. Must possess the skills to adequately supervise respective population and be able to observe, report, and document behaviors on the unit.
  3. Must be able to operate as a role model in decorum, speech, and behaviors consistent with recovery principles.
  4. Must demonstrate good organizational skills.
  5. Must possess the skills necessary to present clinically approved educational lectures.
  6. Must possess cultural sensitivity and act appropriately within all cultures.
  7. Must be computer literate and able to work with most Microsoft applications along with other network components.
  8. Must be able to keep all clinical work within the guidelines of the federal and state guidelines and Caron policy regarding ethical standards.
