Job description

Are you fascinated with the surgery areas in a hospital setting? Are you particularly thinking about becoming a surgeon, anesthesiologist, or other clinical professional one day, and would enjoy learning more about the surgery areas while helping our patients, families, and staff? If so, then you may want to consider volunteering as a Surgery Recovery Aide!
We place many of our volunteers in places such as our PACU and One Day Surgery areas at Children's. PACU stands for "Post Anesthesia Care Unit." No, you will not (and cannot) perform any medical treatment on the patients! However, you can observe the surgery recovery process while also helping our PACU and/or One Day Surgery staff.
Patients enter the PACU and One Day Surgery areas to recover from a variety of surgeries including Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, Dental, Plastics, General Surgery, and more! Surgery Recovery Aide volunteers will sit with patients as they recover from anesthesia by being a calm and supportive presence. Volunteers will also provide support services for our Children's staff through stocking of equipment and maintaining infection control standards.
Our Surgery Recovery Aide volunteers are there to console patients as they recover from surgery, sanitize equipment and stretchers, retrieve patient supplies from the supply closet and central distribution, assist in clerical duties in the unit, and more!
