Overview

Responsibilities
  • The Respiratory Therapy Student shall be under the direction of a licensed Respiratory Therapist.
  • This individual shall be responsible to provide respiratory care and services to patients.
  • Duties and responsibilities are limited to those within the scope of practice of an unlicensed respiratory therapist acting under the direction of a licensed respiratory therapist, to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care.
  • This position may have additional duties assigned that are within the scope of the role.
  • Assist with assessments, administer treatments (oxygen, nebulizers), monitor vitals, and learn life support procedures.
  • Set up, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, and manage medical gas cylinders.
  • Support licensed therapists, nurses, and physicians in developing and implementing care plans.
  • Maintain a clean, safe clinical environment and restock supplies.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned
Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications
  • Must qualify for student status by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy Required OR
  • be a recent graduate with a temporary license from the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Care. Preferred
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting Preferred
  • Temporary license if applicable Required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
