Real World Evidence Rwe information

What is real world evidence (RWE)?

Real World Evidence (RWE) refers to clinical evidence regarding the usage and potential benefits or risks of a medical product, derived from analysis of real-world data (RWD). This data is collected from sources outside of traditional clinical trials, such as electronic health records, insurance claims, patient registries, and wearable devices. RWE plays a crucial role in understanding how treatments work in routine clinical practice, informing regulatory decisions, and supporting drug development and market access. Organizations use RWE to complement clinical trial data, improving healthcare outcomes and patient care.

How does a real world evidence (RWE) professional collaborate with cross-functional teams?

RWE professionals often work closely with colleagues from epidemiology, health economics, medical affairs, and regulatory affairs to design and execute studies using real-world data. Collaboration is essential, as RWE findings support evidence generation for regulatory submissions, market access, and post-marketing surveillance. Regular meetings, data-sharing sessions, and joint project planning are common, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned on study objectives, methodologies, and data interpretation. This collaborative environment helps translate complex data into actionable insights that support decision-making across the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a real world evidence (RWE) professional?

To thrive as a Real World Evidence (RWE) professional, you need a strong background in epidemiology, biostatistics, and data analysis, often supported by an advanced degree in a relevant scientific field. Familiarity with statistical software (such as SAS, R, or Python), real-world data sources (like EHRs and claims databases), and regulatory guidelines (FDA/EMA) is essential. Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills help convey complex findings to stakeholders and integrate RWE into decision-making. These competencies are crucial for generating credible insights that inform clinical, regulatory, and commercial strategies in the healthcare industry.

What is the difference between Real World Evidence Rwe vs Clinical Data Analyst?

AspectReal World Evidence RweClinical Data Analyst
Required credentialsTypically requires a background in healthcare, epidemiology, or biostatistics, often with a master's or PhDUsually requires a degree in health informatics, biostatistics, or related fields, with similar certifications
Work environmentPrimarily in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or research organizations analyzing real-world dataIn clinical research settings, hospitals, or pharmaceutical companies analyzing clinical trial data
Employer and industry usageUsed by pharma companies, healthcare providers, and research institutions to generate real-world insightsUsed by research organizations, hospitals, and pharma for clinical trial data management and analysis

Real World Evidence Rwe professionals focus on analyzing data from real-world settings like electronic health records and insurance claims, while Clinical Data Analysts primarily work with clinical trial data. Both roles require strong analytical skills and related credentials, but Rwe specialists emphasize real-world data sources to inform healthcare decisions.

Job description

Job Description SummaryOrganization's Summary Statement:
The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), based at the University of Maryland College Park, was established in 2018 under the auspices of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence (USDI) to be a strategic asset for research and development in social systems, autonomy and augmentation, and advanced computing. One of only 15 designated Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation and the only UARC focused on supporting the intelligence community, ARLIS conducts both unclassified and classified research spanning from basic to applied system development and works to serve the US Government as an independent and objective trusted agent.
ARLIS research is driven by a cadre of research scientists and engineers, faculty research specialists and project engineers, further supported by senior University of Maryland faculty and a consortium of university partners. Research is typically conducted through teams of e.g. social scientists, computer scientists, psychologists, linguists, cognitive neuroscientists, applied mathematicians, political scientists, policy analysts, and systems engineers.
The Assistant/Associate Research Scientist will support ARLIS's applied research efforts in computer vision and cognitive/affective science. This role is focused on designing, developing, and evaluating advanced computer vision algorithms and prototypes that address real-world defense and national security challenges. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in computational modeling and AI/ML systems, contributing to both early-stage research and deployable solutions.
Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement computer vision models for real-time and offline applications
- Evaluate and optimize algorithm performance across diverse datasets and domains
-Apply principles of both computer vision and psychology to create empirically rigorous, applied solutions for DOW stakeholders
- Collaborate with teams on AI/ML integration and system architecture
- Support technical documentation, reports, and presentation of research outcomes
- Assist in proposal development and research planning efforts
- Contribute to publications, prototypes, and demonstrations for internal and external stakeholders
Security Clearance Requirements

- Experience with AI/ML pipeline development and evaluation
- Ability to apply concepts of computer vision and/or machine learning to human behavior
- Ability to conduct rigorous research and present findings clearly
- Effective collaboration and communication skills in a multidisciplinary environment
Preferences:
- Experience working with cross-functional R&D teams
- Familiarity with defense or intelligence applications of computer vision and AI
- Familiarity with computational neuroscience or biologically inspired computing
-Experience with being a principal investigator (PI) or significant team lead of a research project.
-Development on classified networks
-Active TS/SCI clearance
-Human subjects research experience
Licenses/ Certifications:
