Job description

Position Title: Reading/Writing Specialist Consultant

Qualifications:  

Elem: Reading and Writing Specialist (Endorsement 0037) or Reading and Writing Teacher (Endorsement 0034)

  • Bachelor’s degree in reading, writing, or comparable degree.  

  • NH Education Certification.

  • Reading and Writing Specialist Certification.

  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels (K-6).

  • A valid driver’s license is required. 

Reports to: Principal/Special Education Administrator

Position Summary: The successful candidate for Birch Behavioral school will ensure inclusive learning opportunities that enable students to access teaching material. Provide an education atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth in the area of English Language Arts. This

individual is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving success.  


Responsibilities of the Position:  

  • Provides materials and curriculum that are engaging and age appropriate for students (K-6).

  • In person consultation on-site minimum 2x per month- required. 

  • Regular and predictable attendance and presence at respective center is an essential requirement of position. 

  • Provides learning experiences in the reading and writing guided by the NH state curriculum guidelines and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to a student’s learning and involvement.

  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.

  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.

  • Work collaboratively with district level staff to review and revise science curriculum and coordinate ordering and purchase of materials.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff to understand students’ needs.

  • A qualified applicant will be knowledgeable in the content area standards and demonstrate a commitment to bringing learning to life for students of all ability levels.

  • Oversight of reading and writing instruction.

  • Facilitation and supervision of a reading support program.

  • Facilitation of reading and writing materials and instruction based on school and state standards.

  • Other duties as directed.

  • Up to 6 hours monthly
