This is a two-year position

Salary: $36,300 - $73,928
SUMMARY: To implement Reading Recovery, small group instruction, and literacy lessons as interventions for at risk students. To assess and program for students using all the requirements of the Reading Recovery model, to work with fellow teachers collaboratively to identify and address student needs. If not already trained as a Reading Recovery teacher, train as a teacher during the school year. Training involves course work for a full academic year while working with the individual students in a Reading Recovery setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
  • Meet all the standards and guidelines of Reading Recovery Model
  • Work effectively with at-risk students
  • Advocate for and assist in delivering appropriate literacy intervention
  • Collaborate with other school staff to address student and program needs
  • Assess, record, and monitor student progress
  • Keep complete records on each child served as a basis for instruction
  • Consult with classroom teachers to determine if performance on assessments aligns with performance in the classroom
  • Communicate with the teacher leader, parents, teachers, and other school personnel on a regular basis throughout the year
  • Provide intervention to identified students for a minimum of 2 hours daily
  • Participate in ongoing yearlong professional development
  • Participate in school activities and programs that foster positive growth for all children

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise students in classroom and school settings.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Valid Maine Teaching Certificate
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience in primary grades
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Interest in working with struggling readers and writers
  • Reading Recovery training preferred
