About Spanish Bilingual Reading Support:
The Spanish Bilingual Reading Support Educational Assistant works with students in grades K-3 in a small group setting to support Spanish foundational skills in reading, similar to reading groups. At the discretion of a licensed educator, the EA will use provided materials to practice and support students in the focused area of Spanish literacy. Reading support will take place at K-5 & K-8 schools in small groups during the school day, during WIN Block. All materials will be provided.
  • EAs will attend the orientation and training session after hiring is complete.
  • EAs will work under the direction of a licensed educator.
  • EAs will be matched with students based on literacy needs by a licensed educator.
  • EAs will participate in weekly meetings with a licensed educator.
  • EAs will participate in continuing professional development, which will take place throughout the school year.

Hours: up to 5 days per week, 4 hours per day, up to 19 hours per week
Start Date: October 1, 2025 - June 21, 2026
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Bilingual Educational Assistant provides designated supporting services to a classroom teacher or teaching staff responsible for students in classrooms, resource centers or other school and school related areas including tutoring ELD and Multilingual Learners in the mainstream classroom.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports the instruction of Multilingual Learners in English and/or native language under the supervision of a certified, licensed teacher.
  • Assist, promote and supports family involvement communication between family and the school (e.g., attendance).
  • Support instruction in native language literacy where appropriate.
  • Provide translations and interpretation services as appropriate, with the time provided during their scheduled working hours.
  • Attends meetings including parent conferences, evening activities, home visits and ELD / Dual Language Department meetings.
  • Other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two (2) years, full time, college coursework to meet the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). (Official Transcripts required at time of hire) or passing the ParaPro assessment. PPS offers a FREE Paraeducator Assessment for applicants who do not meet the minimum college credits. For applicants who opt to take the assessment, employment is contingent on receiving a passing score.
  • Experience working with ELD Students / Multilingual Learners.
  • Experience working with Parents of ELD Students / Multilingual Learners.
  • Bilingual fluency in the language (Vietnamese, Russian, Spanish, etc.) and cultural competence.
  • Training in Content Area Methodology.
  • Demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior as required of teachers (e.g., to serve as an effective role model for students).
  • Ability to work with children and families from a low-income background and with who English is a second language.

NOTE: Salary Grade: Appendix B Grade F. Employees in this Bilingual Educational Assistant classification are paid a 5% stipend in addition to the salary range listed below.
SALARY: $20.66 per hour +5% stipend ($21.70 per hour)
WORK YEAR: 192 days
FTE: Limited Term
