DEPARTMENT: Academics

REPORTS TO: Principal

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

SALARY: Range at $60,000- $72,000

What are the major job responsibilities?
Prepare and teach focused reading intervention instruction in small group settings. Interventionists will learn reading strategies for teaching and supporting students in the literacy skills needed to learn to read, read to learn, and comprehend.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teach targeted literacy intervention one-on-one and in small groups of students using research-based strategies and resources
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify students' literacy needs and set learning goals and targets that will increase students' literacy growth.
  • Collaboration with the Reading Intervention team, including but not limited to Reading Interventions, Lead Reading Interventionist, and Director of Intervention + Enrichment.
  • Review student achievement to adjust for the needs of struggling students in appropriate reading and writing intervention.
  • Meet regularly with the classroom teacher to plan and modify literacy instruction that correlates with the individual students' needs.
  • Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students' progress.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in education required; Masters in Curriculum or Reading preferred.
  • Valid Michigan Early Childhood or Elementary Teaching Certification.
  • Highly Qualified Certification.
  • Minimum of three most recent consecutive years of successful reading teaching as evidenced by student data
  • Experience implementing MTSS systems.
  • Experience teaching students in multiple settings and styles.
  • Experience working in diverse low-income communities
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of the cognitive, physiological, and psychological growth and maturational development of children.
  • Understanding of how to assess students' learning needs and ability to understand and implement differentiated instruction and interventions needed to meet those needs.
  • Understands literacy strategies and can apply them to teaching and learning activities across the curriculum.
  • Understands and can use educational technology in and out of the classroom. Gives and receives constructive feedback appropriately
  • Will successfully pass a criminal background check
