What is a React software engineer?

React Software Engineers are developers who specialize in building user interfaces using the React library, a popular JavaScript framework maintained by Meta (formerly Facebook). They are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining web applications with a focus on creating efficient and reusable UI components. Their expertise includes JavaScript, React concepts like JSX, state management, hooks, and often related tools such as Redux or React Router. React Software Engineers collaborate closely with designers, backend developers, and product managers to deliver seamless user experiences.

How does a React software engineer typically collaborate with designers and backend developers during a project?

As a React Software Engineer, you'll work closely with designers to translate UI/UX mockups into interactive web components, ensuring visual and functional accuracy. Collaboration with backend developers is also essential, as you'll integrate APIs and coordinate on data structures and endpoints. Effective communication and regular meetings help align everyone on project requirements, timelines, and potential blockers, leading to a smoother development process and higher-quality deliverables.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a React software engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a React Software Engineer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, React.js, front-end development concepts, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, package managers (npm/yarn), and tools such as Redux for state management is typically expected. Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help engineers collaborate effectively and adapt to evolving project requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial to delivering high-quality, scalable user interfaces and maintaining efficient development workflows.

What is the difference between React Software Engineer vs Front-End Developer?

Work EnvironmentCollaborates with backend teams, focuses on building React-based applicationsDesigns and implements user interfaces across various frameworks
Industry UsageCommon in tech companies developing React appsWidespread across industries, often with broader front-end focus

React Software Engineers specialize in building applications using React, requiring deep knowledge of React-specific tools and libraries. Front-End Developers have a broader scope, working with multiple frameworks and technologies to create user interfaces. While both roles require similar foundational skills, React Software Engineers focus more on React-centric development, whereas Front-End Developers may work across various technologies to deliver UI solutions.

Job description

React Native Software Engineer

Job type: Full Time · Department: Engineering · Work type: Hybrid · USD 140,000-150,000 / year

Plano, Texas, United States

Software EngineerAbout Asher Health

Asher Health is building the compliant infrastructure layer for modern longevity and wellness medicine. We help wellness businesses, clinics, gyms, and healthcare operators launch and scale programs around medical weight loss, longevity medicine, labs, supplements, and preventive health — without needing to build the infrastructure themselves.

We move quickly, care deeply about product quality, and expect high ownership from everyone on the team.

(Sorry, at this time we are unable to sponsor for this role. Applicant must be a US citizen. Applicant must also be close enough to be onsite in our Plano, TX office.)

Role Overview

We are hiring a mid-level Software Engineer to contribute across our front-end and back-end engineering, with some production support and DevOps responsibilities. Our platform is built on a microservices architecture spanning three external-facing portals and one internal administrative portal sharing a common back-end.

You will implement features, build and maintain services, and support production reliability, working alongside our Senior Software Engineer and offshore development team. This role is primarily software engineering, with meaningful exposure to infrastructure, deployment, and operational support – not a dedicated DevOps or support-only position.

ResponsibilitiesSoftware Engineering
  • Build and maintain front-end features using React, following the established design system and component library
  • Develop and maintain Node.js microservices supporting front-end and platform functionality
  • Contribute to API design and service-to-service integration across the microservices architecture
  • Write clean, testable, well-documented code and participate actively in code reviews
  • Collaborate with the Senior Software Engineer and offshore development team on feature delivery and technical design
  • SQL proficiency – able to query databases and interpret results
DevOps & Infrastructure
  • Support and improve CI/CD pipelines for microservices deployment
  • Assist with AWS infrastructure configuration, deployment, and monitoring. We use Terraform to implement infrastructure-as-code.
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code practices as the microservices footprint grows
  • Monitor service health and performance, and help identify and resolve operational issues
AI-Native Development
  • Use AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot, or equivalent) as a core part of daily development workflow. It is critical, however, to have a good understanding of programming – AI is just an assistant and tool.
  • Apply AI tooling to accelerate development, debugging, and production issue resolution
Production Support
  • Participate in triage and resolution of production issues during US business hours
  • Investigate application-level issues, escalating to the Senior Engineer or offshore team when needed
  • Document incidents and resolutions to help improve team triage processes
  • Coordinate with the Operations team on issue intake and status updates
Required Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency in React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Solid Node.js back-end development experience, including working within a microservices architecture
  • Knowledge of AWS services and cloud deployment practices
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and general DevOps practices
  • Experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Ability to read, write, and debug code across the stack
  • Understand data normalization rules and how to apply them
  • Comfort working independently during US business hours with an offshore team in a different timezone
  • Active use of AI coding tools in daily development workflow
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining design systems or component libraries
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
  • Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar)
  • Experience in a production support or on-call engineering capacity
  • Background in healthcare, compliance, or regulated industry environments, including HIPAA or SOC 2 compliance
  • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation at Dallas market rate
  • Hybrid work model (4 days in-office) – Dallas / Plano / Richardson, TX preferred
  • Broad engineering exposure across front-end, back-end, and infrastructure
  • Direct mentorship from the Senior Software Engineer
  • Clear growth path as the engineering team scales
