The Bike Shop Team provides engineering design & development services to a wide range of products within Raytheon.  This role is focused on operating, maintaining, and supporting a range of fabrication and prototyping equipment, with a strong emphasis on desktop-grade and industrial 3D printing and post-processing. The position includes preparing and finishing printed parts through tasks such as support removal, washing, UV curing, sanding, buffing, painting, and installing inserts, while also performing basic CAD modifications to improve printability using Creo Parametric. The job also involves managing materials and inventory, maintaining work queues, meeting customer deadlines and quality expectations, and educating employees on additive manufacturing options, materials, and design strategies. In addition, the role may include teaching introductory additive manufacturing classes, collaborating across multiple printer groups to improve efficiency and part quality, and supporting composite fabrication through trimming, assembly, finishing, equipment maintenance, and use of sealants, adhesives, and RTV compounds.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following. Specific duties will vary based on program assignment and business needs.

  • Manage Additive Lab technician Tasking.  Work with Technicians, internal Engineers, and Customers to ensure that needs are met and are part are produced in a timely manner.  Ensure that all lab work (labor, materials, etc) is accurately tracked via internal systems.
  • Manage Additive lab Scheduling.  Ensure that machines are operating in an efficient manner, downtime is minimized, bulk material inventory is maintained, consumable inventory is maintained, and constant throughput is achieved. Manage customer priority and ensure that “hot” jobs are given precedence. 
  • Consult with internal Customers regarding Design for Additive Manufacturing, the Additive process, capabilities, limitations, materials, etc.  Provide guidance and training on all aspects of 3D printing, assisting customers with making the best decisions for their additive requests.
  • Provide accurate cost and schedule quotes to Customers.  Work closely with customers to understand their needs and adjust scope of projects as needed to come to a common goal that satisfies customer needs and fits in shop queue.
  • Manage large-scale Additive Manufacturing projects, such as fabricating an entire (full-scale) product for display purposes.  Manage customer interactions, general project design and manufacturing process, procurement, schedule, and cost.
  • Maintain and grow shop capabilities, materials, workflows, schedule, efficiency, etc.   
  • Understand, diagnose, provide repair guidance, and determine permanent solutions to issues that may arise with additive equipment or processing.
  • Work with the Capital, Facilities, and Labs organizations to continue to grow the Additive capabilities within Raytheon through the Capital Request process.
  • Work alongside other Additive SME’s throughout Raytheon by consulting, learning, assisting, and actively participating in the Raytheon Additive community.
  • Occasionally operate, maintain, and repair several 3D Printers, including Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SLA) UV Resin, Polyjet, BMD, and Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) Sintered Powder machines
  • Perform Computer Aided Design (CAD) of parts and assemblies utilizing Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM).  Modify existing assemblies, produce molds, ensure parts are printable, etc.
  • Teach “Introduction to Additive Manufacturing” classes to employees occasionally.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
  • A minimum of 5-years experience with Desktop-Grade 3D printers
  • 3 or more years of relevant Manufacturing, Engineering, and / or Leadership experience
  • Experience with CAD Design, Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) and experience with Additive technologies.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing machinery, as well as experience working alongside manufacturing technicians to meet their needs.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Cross-Disciplined Engineering and Manufacturing expertise in an additional field (Electrical Fabrication, Welding, Composites, Machining, etc.)
  • Hands-on Experience operating, maintaining, using, and repairing various types of 3D printers, including SLA, FDM, CFR, Polyjet, BMD, & SLS.
  • Detailed Knowledge of different 3D printing methods, mediums and options, including design recommendations depending on the platform and material. 
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD and 3D modeling software to modify parts, prepare them for printing, create molds, and recommend design changes.
  • Extensive experience repairing, building and/or maintaining 3D printers.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
