Job description

Overview

Our team of doctors, advanced care providers, nurses, therapists, and researchers provides the region's most advanced medicine at multiple facilities, campuses, clinics, and classrooms. We offer patients convenient access to innovative treatments and advancements that improve the health and overall well-being of our community.
Responsibilities
  • This position will provide athletic training services for USA Health clinics under the direction of a designated physician
  • Evaluates and treats medical and musculoskeletal pathology patients consistent with the scope and practice of athletic training clinical competencies as defined by the BOC and the State of Alabama Athletic Training Credentialing Board
  • In addition to direct patient care, the incumbent would be responsible for one or all the following: clinic pre-visit planning, coordination of care, new patient triage, surgical case organization, surgical circulation, and surgical first assist as assigned by the Program Manager
  • Obtains medical history for each patient seen that must include but is not limited to a thorough history of injury or condition, a primary complaint, a pain level assessment, past medical history, and quality of life and how it is affected
  • Performs an appropriate physical examination, which includes but is not limited to range of motion testing, strength and/or manual muscle testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, ligamentous testing, and other special tests as needed
  • Orders diagnostic studies or other referrals under the direction of the attending physician such as radiographs, MRIs, EMG studies, CT scans, and ultrasounds
  • Provides initial rehabilitation exercises and the instruction, demonstration, and feedback on patient performance of the exercises as directed by the attending physician
  • Fits the patient with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other various durable medical equipment as directed by the attending physician and educates the patient on the appropriate use of the equipment provided
  • Removes sutures or staples and provides dressing changes to post-surgical patients as directed by the attending physician
  • Aides the physician in preparing patients for injections that will be performed by the attending physician
  • Schedules patient follow-up appointments
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as required
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards

Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution and 2 years of related experience Required
  • Master's Degree in healthcare, athletic training, education, or business Preferred
  • Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers and licensure as an Athletic Trainer with the state of Alabama Upon Hire Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
