What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rails Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rails Developer, you need strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails, object-oriented programming, and a solid understanding of web application architecture, typically backed by a degree in computer science or relevant experience. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), database management (such as PostgreSQL or MySQL), and deployment tools is essential, along with knowledge of front-end frameworks. Excellent problem-solving skills, teamwork, and clear communication help developers collaborate effectively and adapt to changing project requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial for building robust, scalable applications and ensuring seamless collaboration within development teams.

How does a Rails Developer typically collaborate with front-end developers and designers within a project team?

Rails Developers frequently work closely with front-end developers and designers to ensure that the user interface is both visually appealing and functionally integrated with the backend. This collaboration often involves regular meetings, sharing design specifications, and coordinating on API endpoints or data requirements. Rails Developers translate design mockups into dynamic web pages and may provide feedback on technical feasibility, all while using version control systems like Git for smooth teamwork. Clear communication and an agile workflow are key to delivering cohesive, high-quality web applications.

What are Rails Developers?

Rails Developers are software engineers who specialize in building web applications using Ruby on Rails, a popular open-source web framework written in the Ruby programming language. They are responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining server-side components and integrating with databases and front-end technologies. Rails Developers often work closely with front-end developers, designers, and product managers to deliver scalable and maintainable web solutions.

Our client is seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable, high-impact web applications that power digital experiences across major global events. This is a hands-on senior engineering role focused on application development, data modeling, and system integrations within a modern AWS-based environment.
You will work closely with internal engineering and marketing teams to deliver custom solutions, integrate third-party systems, and continuously improve platform performance and reliability. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful technical impact within a stable, growing organization.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Ruby on Rails applications in a multi-tenant, multi-database environment.
  • Architect and implement API-based integrations with external systems, including Salesforce and other CRM platforms.
  • Build and maintain background job processing for data synchronization, inventory management, ticketing, order processing, and outbound integrations.
  • Collaborate with product, marketing, and engineering stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Engineer and optimize data models to support complex, custom web applications.
  • Write, maintain, and review automated tests to ensure code quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural and technical design discussions.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less-experienced developers while remaining highly hands-on.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing applications with Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience building and supporting multi-tenant Rails applications and database partitioning strategies.
  • Strong experience integrating with external APIs and handling webhook-based data flows.
  • Proficiency with background job frameworks such as ActiveJob or Sidekiq.

  • Familiarity with modern Rails best practices, automated testing, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a W2 basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SaaS platforms, event management systems, or e-commerce applications.
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms and third-party integrations.
