As a railroad welder, your duties are to install or repair railroad equipment or the actual railways upon which railcars run, which includes the tracks and other equipment along a route. There are only a few rolling stock manufacturing companies in the United States, so most railcar welding is in repair, either at train depots or ports where trains pick up and drop off cargo. Your responsibilities are to assess damage, order materials, and repair cars. You work in all weather, and you may need to travel to repair distant pieces of track.
