Job description

We are looking to hire an experienced diesel mechanic to inspect, service, and maintain our range of heavy-duty construction equipment and trucks. As a lead diesel mechanic, you will be responsible for driving to the job site, inspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance to the railroad construction fleet. This opportunity is based out of our shop in Manchester, MD. Mechanic will report to the shop daily with the possibility of field work when needed.

To ensure success as a diesel mechanic, you should have proven experience working with heavy machinery, be physically fit, and be able to troubleshoot issues on the job site. Ultimately, a top-notch diesel mechanic can repair and service even the biggest machinery with expert care.

Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities:

  • Running diagnostic tests on vehicles.
  • Analyzing diagnostic test results.
  • Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
  • Certification for DOT Annual Inspections.
  • Checking vehicle lighting systems.
  • Test driving vehicles to gauge performance. CDL is preferred but not a requirement.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks.
  • Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles and updating in equipment management software.
  • Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
  • Maintaining a parts inventory.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop.

Diesel Mechanic Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license. CDL is preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of diesel mechanic experience is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components.
  • Good IT and diagnostic skills.
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 150 pounds.
  • Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Good organization skills.
