Position Summary

Under the supervision of the nuclear medicine manager and/or chief technologist, the PET/CT technologist performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing advanced imaging equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation. This role promotes service excellence in all patient and team interactions and serves as a PET/CT subject matter expert while independently troubleshooting and resolving imaging-related challenges.

Responsibilities Pet/Ct And Nuclear Medicine Imaging
  • Perform high-quality PET/CT imaging procedures using appropriate age-specific standards to obtain diagnostic information for referring physicians.
  • Perform both general nuclear medicine and PET imaging studies while utilizing technical expertise and knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to execute CT protocols efficiently and accurately.
Radiopharmacy Responsibilities
  • Perform radiopharmacy duties including the receipt, preparation, administration, and storage of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Obtain radionuclides through generator elution systems or bulk shipments while maintaining sterile technique and proper shielding.
  • Verify all radioactive materials for leakage and activity according to departmental and radiation safety standards.
Equipment Quality Control
  • Conduct quality control procedures to ensure optimal operation of gamma cameras, PET/CT equipment, computers, dose calibrators, well counters, and related imaging systems.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly quality assurance testing, including:
    • Uniformity checks
    • Linearity assessments
    • Center of rotation testing
    • Additional required instrumentation evaluations
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and meets departmental standards.
Radiation Safety
  • Adhere to departmental, state, and federal regulations regarding the handling of radioactive materials.
  • Follow ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and self.
  • Utilize appropriate shielding devices including syringe shields and lead carrying cases.
Department Operations
  • Complete assigned responsibilities efficiently to support departmental goals and workflow.
  • Schedule patients using the imagecast computer system and accurately monitor patient arrivals and procedure completion status.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to supporting coworkers and departmental operations.
Patient Experience Excellence
  • Create a positive and welcoming patient experience through professional, compassionate interactions.
  • Introduce yourself and clearly explain your role and procedures.
  • Encourage patient and family engagement by answering questions and addressing concerns.
  • Assess and address patient comfort needs before beginning procedures.
  • Provide follow-up communication and patient support upon exam completion.
  • Support departmental patient satisfaction goals and performance standards as measured through press ganey survey metrics.
Qualifications Education
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved nuclear medicine technology and radiological technology program.
  • Associate degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency meeting entry-level standards in routine CT imaging.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of nuclear medicine experience required.
Licensure & Certifications
  • NMTCB certification OR
  • ARRT (N) certification in nuclear medicine technology OR
  • ARRT (R) certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • Connecticut state license required
  • Current CPR certification required

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and assist with transferring patients, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
