Overview
Intelligent Waves is seeking a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer - SME to drive innovation and mission success through the design, development, and deployment of advanced RF spectrum monitoring solutions. In this role, you will shape the architecture of cutting-edge systems, analyze complex RF environments, and deliver integrated solutions that directly support the warfighter. As a trusted expert, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor military personnel, and provide technical leadership that strengthens national defense capabilities.
Location & Work Schedule: Hybrid role based at San Antonio, TX (4 days on-site, 1 day remote).
Travel Requirement: Up to 20% travel.
Clearance Requirement: Active SECRET clearance required.

Responsibilities
System Architecture & Innovation
  • Provide expert guidance in the architecture and design of RF spectrum monitoring systems, considering frequency bands, modulation schemes, power requirements, and system integration.
  • Identify and develop innovative RF monitoring solutions to address evolving mission requirements and geolocation challenges of RF signals.
Analysis & Optimization
  • Conduct advanced analysis of RF monitoring systems using simulation tools and models to optimize performance.
  • Triangulate radio frequency interference sources, expand system capability, and enhance mission success.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including hardware and software engineers, to deliver integrated and optimized system solutions.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Training, Deployment & Documentation
  • Provide training and mentorship to military personnel performing spectrum monitoring missions.
  • Install, integrate, and deploy RF-based software applications on Windows and Android operating systems.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation for research, development, testing, and evaluation standards and practices.

Qualifications
  • Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • Certifications: DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II (or ability to obtain within 90 days), such as CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, Security+, or SSCP.
  • Education: BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of systems engineering experience implementing and supporting RF systems.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of RF principles and communication systems, including Software-Defined Radios (SDRs), spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
    • Hands-on experience with SIGINT/COMINT systems.
    • Proficiency in transmitter geolocation methods (RSSI, line-of-bearing direction finding, Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA)).
    • Knowledge of military and commercial communication systems (tactical radios, VHF, UHF, LMR, ADS-B, voice).
    • Familiarity with wireless communication standards (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, 5G).
  • Additional Skills:
    • Proficient in Windows and Android operating systems.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
    • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
