Main Purpose of Job

The Health Physicist Supervisor will plan, direct, develop,\r\nand implement activities of the Radioactive Materials Inspection Section. The\r\nincumbent in this position will be responsible for statewide oversight that\r\nincludes radioactive material inspections, investigations, enforcement actions,\r\nfacility decommissioning, emergency response, and financial assurance to assure\r\nthat users of radioisotopes are conducting their licensed activities in a safe\r\nand legal manner. The Health Physicist Supervisor is also responsible for\r\nproviding technical advice and recommendations on health physics matters and on\r\nthe regulations of ionizing radiation sources.\r\nThe working conditions of this position may involve\r\nexposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings. During some industrial\r\nplant visits, the incumbent may encounter high or low ambient temperature,\r\nfumes, or dust. Work involves exposure to hazardous conditions which may result\r\nin injury. The incumbent may be exposed to radiation during routine inspections\r\nand emergency responses. Work involves special physical demands such as\r\nclimbing ladders, etc. Work requires the use of protective equipment such as\r\ngoggles, gloves, mask, etc. When going on site visits, protective gear is\r\nmandatory.\r\nThis position involves conducting\r\ninspections throughout Baltimore City and surrounding Maryland counties.\r\nThe\r\nincumbent is required to operate a State vehicle.If you currently hold an\r\nout-of-state driver's license, you must provide a certified copy of your\r\ndriving record from the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of\r\nappointment. Please note that all individuals must maintain a valid driver's\r\nlicense with no more than five points to operate a State vehicle.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

\r\nApplicants\r\nmust satisfy the minimum qualifications to be considered for this position and\r\nmove forward in the hiring process. Please read all requirements before\r\napplying.\r\nExperience:Nine years of experience in performing the recognition, evaluation and control of radiological hazards to employees and the general public.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with aminimum of 30 credit hours in mathematical, physical or biological sciences and five years of experience in performing the recognition, evaluation and control of radiological hazards to employees and the general public for the required experience.\r\n2.Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in radiation safety, radiological health, health physics or a related radiation control field from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.\r\n3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in radiation safety, radiological health, health physics, or a related radiation control field from an accredited college or university for six years of the required experience.\r\n4. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in mathematical, biological, or physical science from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.\r\n5.Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate in health physics, nuclear physics, radiation management or other related field of radiological health from an accreditedcollege or university for seven years of the required experience.\r\n6.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health and Medical Physicist classifications or Health and Medical Physicist specialty codes in the Physicist field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\nPlease note that your answers to the\r\nsupplemental questionnaire must correspond to the information provided on your\r\napplication to receive credit.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n A bachelor's degree in biology, environmental and health\r\n sciences, medical physics, or physics.\r\n Experience managing employees in a technical or regulatory\r\n environment.\r\n A high level of expertise regarding Health Physics or\r\n Radiation Safety/Security, including knowledge of radiation and radioactive\r\n materials.\r\n Experience with radiation control regulations and\r\n familiarity with related guidance documents.\r\n Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Radiation Safety\r\n Specialist, or Radiation Expert.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n
