How much do radar jobs pay per hour?
What is a radar job?
Radar jobs focus on using radar equipment for a variety of purposes, including cross-referencing with satellite images to gather data on the weather. You can find these jobs under names like radar engineer, a radar technician, or Doppler weather radar technician. In these roles, you may collect a signal from multiple sources to gain more intelligence about a subject being scanned and help model its future movement. Radar is common in both military and civilian fields, and you can find jobs in both. More recently, vehicles have started using radar to detect other vehicles and automatically adjust to their presence, so it is also possible to find a radar job in the automotive industry.

What is the difference between Radar vs Sonar?
| Aspect | Radar | Sonar |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Use | Detects objects via radio waves in air or space | Detects objects via sound waves underwater |
| Work Environment | Air, space, weather monitoring | Underwater, marine environments |
| Required Certifications | Typically involves electronics and radar operation certifications | Requires sonar operation and marine safety certifications |
| Industry Usage | Aerospace, defense, meteorology | Maritime, submarine, underwater exploration |
Radar and Sonar are both detection technologies but serve different environments. Radar uses radio waves to detect objects in the air or space, while Sonar employs sound waves for underwater detection. Their applications, certifications, and industries differ, making each suited for specific operational needs.

- Analysis and visualization of large, compiles datasets MATLAB, Python and other related tools.
- Understand and apply the radar range equation.
- Work independently on multiple tasks.
- Calculate RF link budgets and expected interference levels for various test scenarios and geometries.
- Determine specific radar and other technical data which must be made available and collected to satisfy specified mission requirements.
- Develops physics-based models of RF systems.
- Develop comprehensive test plans, test reports, and presentations.
- Perform RF signal analysis.
- Track known radar data over time to statically determine the health of various radar systems and components.
- Convey complex radar-related information in both written and spoken form for personnel with limited domain knowledge.
- Determine, understand, and evaluate which signal processing techniques and algorithms are used to process radar returns.
- Perform other job-related duties, as required
Desired Qualifications
- Major or Minor in EE or Physics
- Aptitude for learning on the job
- Familiarity with radar signal processing/algorithms (including, but not limited to, CFAR/detection, False Alarm Rate (FAR), waveform/PRF selection, range resolution, scheduling/resource management, trackers, Kalman filters, optimization, etc.)
- Basic understanding of all components of the radar range equation
- Basic understanding of RF, antennas, and/or electromagnetic wave propagation and interaction (antenna theory, RF Sensors, RF front end architectures, signal and digital processing, and sensing modalities or a combination of the above skills and a willingness to deepen expertise)
- MATLAP and/or Python: Proficiency (tool development, scripting, code review, etc.)
- Experience in RF sensor data analysis, signal processing, or related radar/defense work
